I’ve just upgraded to vs. 14.0.30 of Cubase Pro and all the inserts have lost their usual visual appearance. They have all been replaced with a list of horizontal bar settings for each and every individual parameter for the insert. They, basically, now look like an expanded versions of the some of the MIDI inserts; it’s like we have access to the controls under the bonnet (hood), which will take quite a bit of setting, compared with the usual mouse drag method. I’ve never had any problems with any other upgrades.
I did go looking for anything in ‘Preferences’ that might return the inserts to their ‘usual’ appearance, but couldn’t find anything. Has anyone else come across this, please?
I may need to wind back to the previous version of Cubase. How is that done, please?
Thanks for the suggestion, mlib, but, unfortunately, I don’t have that “Switch to Plug-in Editor” option at the bottom of the drop-down menu. Several of the other menu options are the same as you show - but not that one.
And presumably, we don’t have to do that for every single insert plug-in in every single project we have on the go!! I was hoping, at worst, there would be a generic “Preferences” option; or am I misunderstanding what needs to be done to return the inserts to how there were in vs. 14.0.20.
Thanks again.
Just as one example of what the Frequency plug-in now looks like in Cubase Pro vs 14.0.30 (at least on my PC):
Just to make sure, you’re clicking on the wee white downward triangle, correct?
It’s tiny, but the top orange arrow is pointing to it. Just making sure as the window you’re looking at is indeed the generic editor…
Yes, thanks, Thor.HOG - that’s the one I was using, but mine looks like this:
Stranger and stranger!
Indeed. Not sure what to advise at this point. Maybe the Mods will have more insight into that one!
@Rowland Try starting Cubase in Safe Mode with Preferences disabled.
Have a look at this post please. This has happened to others before and for some the culprit was the mentioned file.
Thanks for the idea. But no joy, I’m afraid.

AudioPlugs.srf inside the C:\Program Files\Steinberg\Cubase 12\VST3\Cubase Plug-in Set.vst3\Contents\Resources folder
[/quote]
Many thanks for this. I can’t see a file called AudioPlugs.srf (or similar) inside the C:\Program Files\Steinberg\Cubase 14\VST3\Cubase Plug-in Set.vst3\Contents\Resources folder. I’ve just got three further folders:
- Snapshots (I can see all the proper plug in visuals here)
- SOFA
- VST3 XMls
I have now asked Steinberg Support about this, but thanks very much for the suggestion. I think, in the meantime, I need to find out how to wind back to the previous version. Download Manager, just gives me the option to delete the while program; but I then wouldn’t know where to get the older version.
Well, if you don’t have the file that could be the reason why you don’t get to see the custom UI of each plugin.
Why you don’t have the file is anybody’s guess. Try to point the Support in this direction if you feel they are just guess-working.
Many thanks, Johnny_Moneto. That would appear to be the problem!
I will ask support if they can get that missing AudioPlugs.srf file to me.
Thanks again.
Yo estoy en lo mismo, he perdido la configuracion anterior. Y no me deja cambiar. Llevo un par de dias loco buscando soluciones. Tendre que ir a Steinberg soporte.
Solucionado. He ido a version anterior, he cogido el archivo audioplugs.srf y lo he pegado en el 14.0.30, y ya funciona. ¡¡¡¡ Parece que a Steinberg se le olvido ese archivo.ç

Just a pedantic footnote, as it were, but on Windows, this menu pops up any where you click in a blank part of the plugin’s GUI.
“Pedantic footnote” is my middle name!! But great to know, thank you!
Why not try a repair install, or reinstall? Or install 14.0.20 and save the srf file somewhere? Even if it is only to find out what happens and what happened?
