Hello,
In the following example, I would like to enlarge the width of the last bar.
How could I do this?
Engrave mode. Turn on the Note Spacing tool (left side, horizontal arrows). Then click the square above the penultimate barline and type Alt+Left arrow (or Shift*Alt+Left arrow for bigger distances).
Thank you!
Great!!
This does not work for me on Dorico Elements 5 on Mac!
Welcome to the forum, @pierwill. Can you be more specific? What actions have you tried?
Welcome to the forum, @pierwill. It should work in Dorico Elements, following the procedure described above, and which you can also find in the operation manual here:
I am new to Dorico, making a theory handout. I want to make the measures the same width on the 4 staves shown in my attachment (so all the fa/IV bars for instance align vertically). I tried adjusting each measure on the second staff – got m.1 narrower; then got m.2 the right width; by the farther I got along, the more Dorico “helped” by adjusting what I had already adjusted so the measures that used to be OK are not the correct width any more. And note spacing like m.4 with the V7 chord crashing the bar line is not what I want at all. Please help. Attachments are before and after. Before is not acceptable; after is worse.
Have you played with Layout options>Note spacing >Note spacing ratio:2?
(I am quite reluctant to use Note Spacing sub-mode, Dorico’s global tools are far more elegant and powerful. But sometimes you need some tweaking )
Thank you. Note spacing ratio 2 works for the example I sent, but I don’t want it for my entire project. Is there a way to change Note Spacing Ratio on a section of a piece, but not the whole thing?

Yep, you can insert a Note Spacing Change at any point.
How? (I am a Dorico new-by; Finale user since the first version of Finale in the previous millennium.)
When I go to Setup Mode → Library Menu → Layout Options → Note Spacing:- I see the Custom spacing ratio box to check and the place to change from 1.41 to 2.
- I do not see a place to specify “this applies to m.77-104 only."
Thank you.

In Engrave mode, select a note at the spot where you want to change the note spacing. Then in the Engrave menu, select “Note Spacing Change.”
Wonderful! Thank you.

You can set yourself a shortcut for this function. I certainly have, as it is sooo efficient and elegant. I seldom have a project where I don’t use it.
