Sustain Pedal display in List View

I have posted about this subject for almost 8 years now, so if you’ve seen it before and are sick of me mentioning it, I apologize in advance. I have literally asked every Steinberg employee about this and they have all said “sorry, we’ll look into that”. Yet here we are at Cubase 14 and the problem is actually worse.

Beginning of my sad elegy:

Back in the ‘old days’, controller 64 events were colored differently. I think it was RED for “on (127)” and BLUE for "off (0). Easy to see and easy to edit, especially editing the piano parts of high profile ‘lets move fast’ clients like Burt Bacharach, etc. Then that got changed to where the sustain controller events were all colored a weird gray (I’m not great with colors anyway) but at least they were different than the note events. But hard to tell whether it was ON or OFF without looking to the list to see if it was 127 or 0. Alas, now the controller 64 events are the same color as the notes. Meaning if you have a short note it looks exactly like a controller 64 event. Arghhhhhh!!!

Please please please help! I cannot be the only Cubase/Nuendo user who edits piano and synth parts.

The end.

You’re not, but I use the piano roll for MIDI editing of synth parts, but that’s obviously a personal preference. Timeline being left to right and in that view MIDI CC lanes are clearly visually separated).

So I mostly use the list view for troubleshooting (like identifying notes that hidden due to overlaps). I remember starting with the list view for MIDI editing in my Atari days, though, so I can see why someone might have continued to prefer that view. It’s obviously also popular in the tracker scene.

So maybe you’re in a smaller group of users, who uses the list view for routine editing?

But if you’re not so alone, using the feature request tag and lobbying for votes might be an approach to gain better traction for your wish?

Yes, obviously the sustain info is displayed in the piano roll. But I have to keep enabling the sustain info to be seen, it doesn’t automatically show that. I mostly use the modulation info display for editing string parts’ volumes and swells and decrescendos. . It’s so much more faster and efficient to edit the sustain info on the list view since it all just pops up. I work very fast and although there are obviously other ways to work, these are techniques I have developed over many years of working with impatient genius’. I get things done very quickly and musically.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I appreciate it greatly.
