Agree, but there was a big, red flag.
Having your provider being investigated by the FTC raises at least two huge flags: one, that your provider seems to be doing shady stuff and two, maybe even more important from a practical if not ethical pov, that if the FTC is involved then this might have some very serious direct consequences.
I have no idea what happened, but half a year after FTC getting involved, here we are.
Itâs not a business being âhiredâ though, that suggest more one-off work or services, this is a far more integrated relationship thatâs been in place for years.
Every business iâve worked with do have a supplier audit process where you frequently review the suitability of key suppliers to protect your own business. Iâve been at both ends of that process too.
That said, those kind of processes are usually reviewed on the basis of how suitable that supplier is in providing the products/services. So, Iâm not sure anything like this would flag up as it falls very much in the legal/upper tier camp.
Either way, I can see why SB are reversing out of this ASAP. It wouldnât reflect well on them as a business if this news came out before they announced cutting ties and moving to a new partner.
Yeah, but the key is âdoor stepâ. Did they know?
Let me put it this way: Letâs just say that âdigitallysaneâ, and myself btw, are both using Cubase/Nuendo for a living. Do you or I check the FTC regularly for possible Steinberg news? Do Pro Tools users check for Avid? I sure donât check either (customer of both). And I donât check financial statements either.
Exactly.
Avidâs business is pretty often subject of discussion and worry on various audio forums.
Asknet investigation was public stuff. Yeah, maybe their clientâs clients (us) were not immediately reached by the information, but their direct clients certainly were.
Anyway, as I said in a previous post, I try to see the bright side and look forward to the improvement that might come out of this, as I didnât particularly like the Asknet solution they had anyway.
And no urgency in having Nuendo 13 for me, Iâm fine whenever it shows up.
Yeah all depends on how big that news is⌠If itâs public and getting noticed, Iâm sure the company will pay attention. I can tell you from working for a company whoâs products are all over at Best Buy, Amazon, NewEgg, pretty much all the computer retailers, Target, Walmart, etc⌠We arenât digging into news on those companies. They place orders like everybody else, we fulfill them. Whatever theyâre doing is what theyâre doing, weâre just fulfilling stock. Calls come into customer service all the time âWe ordered a monitor from Best Buy and they havenât shipped it yet!â Well son, time to call Best Buy, not the people you didnât buy it from. We have no clue what theyâre doing, its THEIR business.
I just heard about this shop closure. I was really hoping Cubase 13 was coming out todayâŚ.i guess Iâll be waiting a while.
Iâm just obsessed with Cubase these days.
One more question : Cubase 13 being delayed an uncertain number of weeks/months, what could we expect for Nuendo 13 ? Will it be released respecting the usual Steinbergâs delay between Cubase and Nuendo or will all the products ready to be released at the reopening of the shop be released in same âreopen happeningâ ?
The exact cadence of releases for the products that are ready or close to ready for release will be determined once we know when the new shop is open. We are making good progress towards getting the new shop set up, though itâs still too soon to say when it will be ready.
Thanks but unfortunately this is poor infos
Youâre⌠welcome?
My money has always been ⌠welcome.
This is all we need to hear , progress is being made
âŚand you have always received something in return. Money from the past does not entitle anybody to information from the future.
I for one am happy that Steinberg does not handle their software as something like Star Citizen or Duke Nukem Forever.
We would love to share more details but while progress is made, there are many things to consider.
Yes, this shop issue has an effect on upcoming product releases but how exactly still needs to be determined. Integrating an entirely new shop system requires thorough testing and we might opt for a soft-opening. The near future will tell and we can only ask for your patience.
Thanks for the update and for the transparency. Are you guys able to give us an idea of whether weâre looking at a timeframe of days, weeks, or months before the new shop is ready?
Itâs still too soon to say, so as Ed says, we need to continue to ask for your patience in the meantime.
For people on the fence about buying from a third party currently, will there be any guarantee for grace period from the date of this announcement until the release date of the initial product(s) on the new store?
Iâm thinking the rumoured release of C13, for example. Would anyone buying/activating C12 today have some guarantee that they would get C13 once the store issue has been resolved?
We have not made any announcements about the grace period for any future product releases, so I canât give any specific information on this topic.
maybe due to the delay, they can squeeze a feature that wasnât included in C13 original release ! or at least add a features as a" bonus ", in next free update of C13, just as a good gesture .
we wait 18 months now for every new version release and the progress seems slow(to me) , like any version release there are mixed feelings.
so adding a free feature now and then during version life could be nice surprise and ease on workflow
