I’ve told this story a few times, but a bolt of lightning once struck very near to my flat and reset my computer. Can’t remember if it was my ST1040 or my PC, it was around 1994/5.

Yesterday we had a thunder storm. I had put my computer to sleep before bed. Today the computer was off. We lost the power I guess. Nothing on the computer is safe at any time.
There’s also the opposite. I belive Devin Townsend was quoted saying he tends to break ProTools all the time because he sets it to auto-save after every change.
Someone take his computer away. (yikes!)
I remember there is a program that auto-saved, syncing with the cloud, every time I stopped typing. Every single little change used resources to write to the disk and send a packet across the world to a server. It was a note program, forgot what it was, maybe notion. Guess what program I don’t use.
This is way too wasteful. It’s like running the water while brushing your teeth cause you like the sound of water. Or data centers drinking the rivers dry to help us write an email. This is post-capitalist luxury. Good times create weak men, and those who abuse the prosperity they inherited is too evil to deserve it.
