Token text frame at start of new flow system in the middle of a page

Hi there, please see the attached image…

I added a text frame on all the master pages so it aligns with the indentation of the first system, as you can see in Flows 1 and 3 (with the flowNumber token).

Is there a way to add a text frame that ALWAYS appears on that first system, so that, in this example, “2.” would be added to the left of the first system of Flow 2?

No, I’m afraid you can’t attach a text frame to the start of the flow. Requests for placement of a short title or automatic flow number before the system have been made before.

I can think of the following workaround, but maybe others have better ideas:
• create a text object (Shift-X) on the start of the first bar (of course, this is ‘dumb text’, the number will not update if flows are reordered)
• a dedicated Paragraph Style for this purpose would be useful
• in Engrave Mode, drag the object in place
• make a note of the x and y offsets (properties panel)
• use these offsets in other flow numbers for consistency.

Thanks, yeah, I was hoping to avoid the “dumb text” thing. But I see how your workaround could work.

It would be really cool if they could develop a way to have music “flow around” or “ignore” text or graphics frames, like a DTP program, like InDesign. Then you can just create it in the Flow Headings and have it behave the appropriate way.

Hi @RoGoComposer , your approach with text frames and flow number tokens is not the way to go, I think.

Beside @PjotrB useful suggestion above, here is a thread with some alternative ideas (as for example the once suggesting editing of Flow Headings).

There are other threads that handle this. If I (or someone else) finds the links, they will be certainly be added to this thread.
