Transcribing in Dorico

Dear Forum,

I have a Concert-Video, I would like to transcribe in dorico 3.5. Is it possible to slow down the video playback and remain the sync to the bars intact?

One of the problems is, that the video has sound, but does not playback audible sound in Dorico. Where Video´s Mixer channel is unmuted, while not showing visible audio in the meters double checking it so far…

It is a regular .mp4 60fps, which I set in dorico during its importing pop - ups.

Considered the following help instructions, too…

Just a couple of random things to check that I can think of…

Are you certain the video has audio? Can you play it back in another application and confirm?

Passing that test, check the audio interface configuration in Dorico. What sample rate is it set to? Try setting it to another (44100 and 48000 are two common ones) then restart/reload the video.

Ya,
I have a working mp4 Video here. dorico can´t play it back. Mixer is checked, some settings in the Audio sample rate have been set back and forth…
No Mute is activated, the appropriate Video channel in the Mixer is shown playing back no audio.
Dragging dropping into Logic Pro is no problem, Sound and picture when played back

Actually I don’t have a solution to your problem, but an advice …
I also work quite a lot in the field of transcribing and would currently advise against Dorico for the pure transcription of instrumental parts. The handling of videos, synchronising and the whole process is incredibly cumbersome. That’s why I work with https://www.soundslice.com/ first and then export an XML file that I lay out in Dorico. Hopefully Dorico will make progress in this area, which would make my work much easier.

I haven’t tried videos in Dorico yet, so I can’t help with your question.

I do a lot of transcriptions for solo guitar. I use Reaper (a DAW) to slow down and loop sections of songs. I recently discovered that, if you have a video on a Reaper track, slowing down correctly slows down that video, while playing the audio perfectly! You can also slow down audio/video while preserving the original pitch!

You can also “tempo match” so that the bars align with the music (a bit tedious to do, but very useful).

So, I have Reaper in one window, and Dorico in another window, and switch between them.

Good luck whatever you do!

That’s where the fun part with soundslice starts its simply tapping to the beat of the music … the result is amazing! Try it yourself …. to see something like that in Dorico would be a dream come true, but up to now it’s just wishful thinking.

Byhxx - you might also review these threads to see is something helps

I’ve not tried soundslice… I lean on Transcribe! Transcribe! - software to help transcribe recorded music

I use Transcribe! all the time too. One of the great things about it is you can program MIDI commands for it, including MIDI foot pedals. I leave Transcribe! in the background with Dorico in the foreground and transcribe directly into Dorico using my MIDI foot pedals to control the playback.
