If, for example, I need to use MIDI notes for a virtual instrument that are an octave higher than they are actually written, how can I change the display in the score editor?
In this specific case, I am using a bass VST from Ample Sound and the display of the notes in the score editor is an octave too high, if I use the right MIDI notes for this VST Plugin.
Type of instrument is a 4-string bass guitar…
The score editor can show transposing instruments with their transposed pitch. Currently though this can only be used for showing the preset transposition of that instrument type. It’s not possible at the moment to define a custom transposition for each instrument
Thank you for your quick reply.
I think that such a function will definitely be needed, as the octave is often not correct on virtual instruments.
In this case, the Contrabass Balalaika did the trick
We’ll think about the best way to support this in the future. In Dorico, this is a property of the Expression Map, because that describes the mapping between notated pitch and MIDI pitch, but we don’t have exactly the same concept in Cubase Expression Maps currently.
I export the score frequently for musicians playing in any different key. In Cubase 13, it was possible to transpose the display and not the sound but not in Cubase 14 as I understand.
Is there not an approach I can use other than making a temporary key change?
Hi Nick,
I can only support this. It’s absolutely necessary to be able to manually transpose parts of the score, independent of MIDI, just for display purposes.
I’ve mentioned this before: for example, there might be a keyboard player whose instrument plays transposed to simplify the original key signature.
there should be a free transpose option for instrument types.
I use a Submission Audio electric bass library. To see and hear the correct notes, I have to use the 8va bass clef, which is completely wrong.
With the standard bass clef provided by the predefined instrument type “Electric bass” I need a transpose function for the samples in use.
Aa 8vb clef, to show that the bass is an octave transposing instrument would be fine, too. Again, works only with a transpose function.
The makers of sample libraries don´t use the same octaves, so a transpose function BEFORE starting to score is necessary.
Or more instrument types for all variations imaginable…
