Troubleshooting "No Valid License Found"

Hello everyone, I have been a user of Dorico for just over 2 years now, and have thoroughly enjoyed what it has to offer as opposed to other notation software; I have just the other day, come across an issue saying “no valid license found”, and am unsure on how to fix this issue. I have looked into past forum posts for an answer, but

  • The ones I found seemed to have been a problem stemming from a physical copy being used on multiple devices; I do not have a physical copy of Dorico or any Steinberg product, and have only ever used them on this one device.

  • I may have misunderstood, but I believe they also seemed to have had it manually fixed on the other end, and that coupled with my inexperience with troubleshooting software, I thought the best place to ask is here.

I have also been using Dorico 3.5, which is of course quite outdated, and may be why this issue crops up now, but I have been unsure how to update to a more recent version, how (if possible) I would keep my license I’ve been using, etc. Please forgive me if this is an obvious fix, I am new to much of this and am trying to figure it out.

Cheers,
Tyler Worrell

Dorico_Error

Update: I downloaded the latest version of the Download Assistant, and when it opened, it updated every other Steinberg file I have on my computer, and from there, Dorico opened completely normally as usual. I imagine however that the sooner I upgrade to a more recent Dorico version, the better.

I think that as long as it all works with Download Assistant, future updates will not be problem.

(AFAIK some problems have occurred with folks transitioning from the old USB/elicencer and/or had Steinberg legacy products that needed those old licencing methods)

Steinberg will be ending support for the eLicenser system early in 2025, and if you want to be able to buy further updates to your software in future, it will be necessary to update to a Steinberg Licensing-based version of Dorico before the eLicenser system is shut down.
