UDPATE: eLicenser Service Closes Down on May 20, 2025

After the service is closed down and I have for example my old Cubase 11 (already upgraded to latest version) still workable on a USB dongle, Do I still need to run the eLCC software or will the Cubase software check the USB dongle directly without the eLcc software?

You’ll still need elcc.

Since this service is closing down in two months, can I please ask a simple question (likely asked here a lot now), or maybe not.

Why are you still bundling the eLicenser installer with Steinberg Download Assistant?
I think more people would use the tool if you stopped including software we don’t need. And once it is there, every launch it tries to reinstall it again too.
So frustrating.

It is the very reason I pushback on that application, opting instead to install everything manually when I have the time. I have no need for eLC. Unless I am missing something and the new activation method or Cubase uses some of the eLC extensions installed? Which from my little understanding I would say it does not

Yes, you have no need …and…yes, you are missing something

Although the server will go down, there are those of us continuing to use Cubendo 14,13,12,11,10,9,8,7,6,5,4 etc. In my case, I use all of the above on my windows11 machines.

For example, I just did a clean os install of win11 24H2 on one of my windows slave machines a few weeks back. As part of the daw reinstalls, I installed the sda too of course…which of course, also includes the teeny tiny elicenser program as well.

Upon inserting the dongle, installing Cubase 14, Nuendo 13, Cubase 9 and 6.5…all started up flawlessly…as expected.

The server will go down in May but…thousands of pre-existing dongles will not.

Yes, you yourself have no need for the dongle install prgm…and even I have it manually saved in several areas. Perhaps it’ll be unbundled from the download assistant in May. Perhaps not.

However, there is the answer as to why it’s still in the loop.
