First I had the one month trial installed. Shortly after, I bought Cubase Elements. Downloaded and installed just fine, so I was assuming as long as I run Elements, not Pro Trial, I’m fine. Today it greeted me with a message that my trial is expiring, I checked the activation manager and it showed Elements was not activated. When I click on “activate” button, progress indicator spins for a while, but nothing happens, no error messages either. I thought maybe the trial license gets in the way, and deactivated it. Now both don’t work. Steinberg account says “Cubase Elements 12 not used on any computers”. When I try to run Elements, activation manager just says “no license found”. Any ideas how to fix this? Sadly, Steinberg support, irresponsibly delegated to the local distributors, seems to be a total useless mess.
Also, for an unknown reason, in the start menu Elements shows as “Cubase LE AI Elements 12”, and Pro trial simply as “Cubase 12”.

Regarding your license… Could you double-check an antivirus or firewall to prevent some Steinberg communication blocks, please?
Yes, I tried turning it off, didn’t help.
I even set my default browser to Microsoft, as some forums suggest - didn’t help too. Uninstalled the trial version of Cubase Pro, reinstalled Cubase Elements - didn’t help. Download assistant happily accepts the code and downloads, but activation manager doesn’t activate, and the software can’t find the license and quits. So much for not cheap commercial software, was going to work on music this weekend

Managed to find the activation manager logs under Users/AppData/Roaming/Steinberg/Activation Manager/Logs, don’t see any helpful info there too.

I tried cleaning the activation manager’s cache too, still no luck.
Which version of Steinberg Activation Manager is in use? Anything earlier than 1.3.1 is obsolete. There were some bugs with trial licences in earlier versions. If you are on an older version, running Steinberg Download Assistant should update it - though I would have expected that to happen seeing as you have Steinberg Download Assistant open in your screenshot.

Steinberg Activation Manager 1.3.1.698, the one that got installed in early May, so it’s fine and up to date.

Tried uninstalling Cubase Elements, downloading and installing again - didn’t help. Tried uninstalling everything, including the activation manager and download assistant, downloading and installing again - didn’t help. Can’t really think of any other things I could do. Steinberg did let me down big time. Will give the local dealer, to which they delegated all support, another day to reply, considering legal action after.

Trying to work with the local dealer now, as instructed by Steinberg website. After some chasing, the contact has been established, but no progress to report so far. 4th day out of business already.
Somebody from the local dealer (Yamaha) sent me an email, saying they understand this is urgent, and asking for tech and contact details, both were given, and that’s all for the day. 5th day out of business and counting. Will have to seek escalation to Steinberg directly soon.
Today Cubase Pro trial has expired, so I checked the Activation Manager again. The button on Pro changed from “Activate” to “Buy”, but nothing has changed for Elements. When I click the “Activate” button, the progress indicator at the bottom spins for couple seconds, but nothing happens. Antivirus, firewall, all security is off.
If you have updated Windows recently, this is worth a try
