Variaudio cubase 12.0.60 mac M1 Native

Hi all, I don’t know if anyone had the same problem. Cubase 12.0.60 on MAC m1. When I use the audio editor only the sample editor opens and not the audio part editor, however after a while I use Variaudio in this mode while working on the voice, listening, suddenly cubase freezes and goes into crash. after that i have to force quit and restart the program. Thank you :):)

Hi and welcome to the forum,

Audio Part is something different than Audio Event. Audio part Editor opens for Audio Parts, Sample Editor opens for Audio Events. VariAudio is available only for the Audio Events, i.e. in the Sample Editor.

If you got a crash, attach the *.ips file, please.

Mac: macOS Console utility > Crash Reports (or ~user/Library/Logs/Diagnostic Reports).

Hi Martin, first of all thanks for replying. I can’t find the files you ask me because actually cubase doesn’t crash. After a while that I edited the voice with variaudio, suddenly I can’t hear anything anymore!! even if I exit the editor, nothing plays anymore. I did several tests such as closing open vsts or plugins but nothing. The song plays but no sound. At that point I decide to close it and Cubase crashes. The wheel spins in vain and if I go to the forced quit screen, the window tells me that Cubase is not responding and at that point I force quit!! Then I reopen everything, including the song and everything works perfectly. It’s just a problem with Variaudio. I hope I explained myself. I look forward to your feedback as this issue is blocking me on a job that I have to deliver soon. Thanks again. Vito

Hi,

Do I understand you right Cubase doesn’t crashes, it freezes?

Hi,

Thank you for the details and the *.crash file (even though you sent it via PM).

Reported to Steinberg. Thank you.

I reported about this exact issue about a month ago, no one care.
Some other users also faced this, and truly no one care.
From the Cubase users Facebook forum, I can confirm that not all M1 or M2 users will have this issue, but it actually happened to some of us, and I don’t think we are doing anything wrong.
I describe exactly again, hoping the topic owner may try and see if this is your issue.
Please watch the video I attach below, thank you.

Hi, my problem is actually very similar to yours. It freezes for me the same way when I move the curve one segment. I am awaiting a response from Steinberg.
I’ll let you know if I have any news on the resolution.
Thanks bye

Hi,

Are you also on M1 or M2 Mac, please?

Hi Martin, mine is an M1 Max Mac Studio, OS Monterey.
Thank you.

Hi,

Could you try in the Cubase Safe Start Mode [Disable preferences], please?

Or could you try to rename/delete all Cubase versions preferences folders? Cubase Preferences folders are:
Mac: ~/Library/Preferences/Cubase X
Win: %appData% Steinberg/Cubase X_64

Hi, I tried clearing preferences and reopening cubase.
later I opened a new song with the track to be edited with variaudio and it froze as before.
unfortunately it is not the solution…thanks

Hi Martin,

I also tried Safe Start Mode a few times, no luck.
Although there was no other Cubase Version Preferences Folders, as my is a brand new Mac Studio, I also tried to delete the Current Preferences Folder, also Re-install Cubase a couple times.
The result is un-changed.
Did you tried to do sth similar to my video on a Mac M1? Another user tried it on a M2 and there is no issue. So curious.

Thank you.

Hi,

Yes, I tried to follow your video step by step at my MacBook Pro M1. Unfortunately I cannot reproduce it here.

Do you think it might be project related?

Hi,

It happened to all of my current projects.
And as you suggested, I decided to create a new empty project, then import only 1 vocal track, then try edit using Variaudio.
It just worked about 2 slices I did. And to the 3rd slice, the sound completely muted. And the issue happened again.
Are you on Ventura or Monterey? Thank you.

Hi,

Did you import a track from other project or did you import an Audio file via MediaBay, please?

I’m on macOS 13 (sorry, I don’t know the name from top of my head).

I imported an audio file using File->Import Audio Files and let Cubase create a new audio track automatically.
OS 13 is the latest OS which I haven’t go to yet. (I am still on OS 12.6.3)
As I mentioned from one of my comments here, there is a user who showed me he didn’t face the issue, and he is also on OS 13.
It would be great if someone can try on OS 12 then tell us if they can see this issue or not.
Thanks.

Hi,

Did you update to Cubase 13 already, please? Do you have the issue with Cubase 13 too, please? Thank you.

Hello I am on cubase 13, Mac m2 pro, and its still hanging on variaudio, I have to use rosetta, because native silicon is unstable

Hi Martin.

I have the same issue in Cubase 12 / 13 pro. Mac OS Montery. M1 Mac studio.

If I run in Rosetta2 it is perfectly stable and I never have any issues. Switch to native mode and editing audio becomes a nightmare. Edit a few vocal parts and crash…spinning beach ball. I have to “force quit”.

Thanks .

Hi and welcome to the forum,

Does Cubase crash (do you have an *.ips file) or does it freeze? If you have an *.ips file, could you attach it, please?

Mac: macOS Console utility > Crash Reports (or ~user/Library/Logs/Diagnostic Reports).
