Waiting for C6.5.5 update.

Yeah, I’m sure there will be the usual, “The new CB update has caused my PC to crash” type posts.
So, why not get yourself a copy of Acronis Trueimage or similar HD cloner, and copy your C drive before installing the update?
I’ve used ATI for years, it takes 10 to 15 minutes to clone a drive. I couldn’t even guess at the number of hours, days or even weeks, of frustration it has saved me from.

Yeah, Strophoid, that caught my eye, too. Helge said earlier, in another post that Variaudio would be fixed in 6.5.5 so this really confounds me. Helge, do you want to adress this please? Was the list of fixes not the complete list?

why not make a restore point ,it’s much simpler … or windows disk image , no need for acronis , ive had acronis fail on me a few times ,never again !

My point being: There are precautions that can be taken prior to installing any new software or associated updates.
Which method used is down to the individual. I’m sure there are many CB users still on XP which (as far as I remember) doesn’t have Windows System Image. And my memory of System Restore as a method of reverting to pre-update was that it was time consuming and not entirely problem-free, admittedly I haven’t used System Restore since XP, so MS may have improved it.
It’s unfortunate that you’ve had problems with ATI in the past. It’s a PITA thinking you have all eventualities covered, only for the software to let you down.

Two days to go, awesome!

I guess I’m not getting an answer on the Variaudio fix from Helge but I’m still optomistic as he seems more overworked than disingenuine. :sunglasses:

oohhhhhh tomorrow is judgement day , closure for 6.5 , will everything be working perfect and will Bredo get his wish for the Cubase 7 mixer to be integrated into 6.5

I thought that would get your attention lol … Im sure every thing will be fine . I bet all the fixes were applied by February and it’s been on the text bench since then , are you sure you don’t want to do a last minute pitch for the new mixer ???

Guess I’ll have to wait a few more hours than you guys.

C6.5.5 will be so perfect, I’ll stop using C7.

{‘-’}

So do I… Honestly, I’m much more impatient this morning than I could be for any C7 update. I almost gave up trying to use this one : the first majoir disappointment in all my Steinberg past years.

Installed! No disasters so far
Cheers!

Thanks for the update SB; very welcome…

A (very small) niggle…

Right hand side of mixer, where all output channels sit… I’m sure in previous editions this area used to grow/collapse as you added/removed outputs (channels). Seems now there is a permanent ‘blank’ placeholder type section (a channel width) if you only have one main output. Add a second, and it fills up this space (to the right); remove it and this blank area returns next to your one output…

Am I wrong, and its always been like this…?!? (been using C7 almost exclusively since about March…)

Not here… The mixer behaves as it did in 6.5.4 and I have a normal ‘Output channels’ section.

BUT… I just stumbled on another one : could someone quickly check if the ‘Play/Scrub’ tool works on an audio event ? Can’t get it to work, whether in ‘Play’ or ‘Scrub’ mode : the cursor moves but the transport time counter doesn’t and I have no sound, at the opposite of what is happening on a MIDI part : here, I get the sound and the time display does count while playing/scrubbing on it.

Thanks in advance.

Up and running, too. The space gap has always been there, BTW, depends on how ‘loaded’ your mixer is.

I have had the typical Reverence issues that come with a new install - all my presets are confused for a while. Just keep opening and closing Cubase a few times. I have never understood why this happens and have assumed it is just a complicated program. Everything else works as it should, Wave plugins, yes.

As to Variaudio, hm, I have yet to try this. I am very doubtful but it’s still possible that Helge has lived up to his commitment. I would appreciate more input on this from others, of course.

Really, the behavior of things seems the same. Might just be an update that doesn’t offer any real benefit to me, YMMV. But I could always use a working Variaudio…

Scrubber working correctly here on audio tracks - BUT - Not on midi tracks.

:open_mouth:

Exactly the opposite here : I checked it as ‘Scrubbing on MIDI parts’ was one of the fixes listed by Helge and it indeed works. Out of curiosity, I also tried on audio events and here I am with this ‘Play/Scrub’ tool issue on them…

Would be glad to see others chiming in about this… Thanks for having done so.

Is this a Preference issue? I can’t find a line or check box that offers scrubbing on audio or midi but maybe there is something.

Also running the scrubbing mode from the project bar options, my audio parts will play but my midi goes silent. And as soon as I hit play, all parts will play.

The only things I found in the preferences about scrubbing are in the ‘Transport/Scrub’ page and nothing is specific to audio or MIDI. Indeed, maybe something is interfering under the hood, but what ?

As you, playing ‘normally’ (with the transport ‘Play’ button) makes everything sound as it should. But here, whether using the project window bar tool or the contextual menu one leads to the same result : the ‘Play/Scrub’ tool only works on MIDI parts. A little precision, though : on audio events, the transport timer display works, using this tool on the ‘Scrub’ mode, but not on the ‘Play’ one. But I get no sound with either of them…

Ok, thanks about the mixer ‘space-gap’ thing guys… I’ll cope…!

Now, the Play/Scrub tool:-

  1. Play on audio works BUT no transport counter running; Scrub on audio works ok, transport counter runs properly/as expected (backwards/forwards, free flowing as it should).
  2. Play on MIDI does NOT work at all - no sound. Transport counter runs fine; scrub on MIDI works, but is quite an ‘erratic’ fashion (notes sometimes play, sometimes disappear; playhead acts like no ‘scrub’ is active and moves exactly as you move the mouse - very fast or slow, tied to the mouse), transport counter follows exactly your moves.

I think I’ve found something, related to the control room. I set few days ago two busses in it : a ‘headphones’ one and a ‘Control room’ one for my monitor speakers. While scrubbing on the MIDI parts, both busses receive the signal, and when scrubbing on audio events, only the ‘Control room’ one receives it. And, as I was testing until now with my headphones…

Now I have to find why such a behavior… So, if you have the control room activated, perhaps there is something to check in it.
