From the title of this post, it’s clear there are some questions and suggestions for a future Cubasis update. For me, these are:
1. More correct handling of project transfers in Cubase.
2. Add the ability to save automation records in a .dawproject file for transfer to Cubase, as this is currently unavailable.
3. The ability to manage frozen channels of Cubasis projects in Cubase, as this is also currently impossible. If Cubasis projects contain frozen instrument tracks and you open these projects in Cubase, you cannot edit the frozen MIDI tracks.
4. Add the ability to import folders of samples, as importing one sample file at a time into Cubasis is very time-consuming and unsustainable, as folders can be several gigabytes in size.
5. Fix incorrect audio track behavior in Cubase caused by freezing MIDI tracks in Cubasis. Specifically, audio tracks open but are not synchronized with the beat and project position, which work fine in Cubasis.
6. Not all track control functions work when bound to MIDI controller buttons. I bound the mute and solo buttons to MIDI controller buttons, but they don’t work. I used M-audio Oxygen 61 mk3.
7. Add the ability to delete fragments and normalize the volume in individual sections of an audio track without changing the length or integrity of the audio track. This is because extraneous sounds or noise may be recorded and you want to cut or mute them, but this is not included in the audio track processing functions.
What would you like to see in the new Cubasis 4 update?
Hide tracks under group tracks. Proper crossfade automation. FX busses. More precise volume/pan sliders, because when you move the volume slider with your finger, for example, the value is approximate and includes two decimal places, whereas only one decimal place is actually useful.. Increase overall performance for old ipad models. Mixdown with the EXACT same length as per between the markers, and not with few milliseconds more..Having the ability to select all tracks and apply a global volume change. Cut/Paste. NO sample rate changes without a notice (for exemple when opening interapps audio plugins..). Direct access to master tracks, instead of sliding all the tracks in mixer view to reach the master track..Match BPM and key of the track when press play in media bay audio files. Keyboard with scale selection instead of doing it manually. See the value when editing automation using auv3 plugins.
FINALLY adding either Groove Agent or - which would be even better IMO - the new Cubase 14/15 Drum track would really be welcome.
From my view nothing has been and is more limiting for the use of Cubasis than the meanwhile much too long lasting omission of essential drum track functionality.
Usually these wish lists in user forums go absolutely nowhere, but with Lars being so active here, there’s actually a good chance this will at least get read. So, I’ll bite:
I need mix busses and better routing in the Cubasis mixer. As a matter of fact, with a heavy heart, I’m planning on migrating towards Logic on the iPad because of that.
My use case is as follows:
We use Cubasis as the heart of our live show. Right now, we use an external digital mixer (Behringer XR18) to do things like create an in-ear monitor mix, and I need to consolidate our live setup to travel more easily on airplanes when we play shows internationally.
I’ve already got a multichannel audio interface with enough inputs and outputs, so, if I could do things like create submixes (including having processing like compressors, de-essers, EQ, reverb, etc. on, say, the vocal busses) in Cubasis, I could continue to use it (as I would much prefer).
Yes. I have a latest-generation iPad Pro, and it’s barely breaking a sweat.
But then again, I’m not doing any fancy processing (yet), aside from some basic master bus processing (compression etc.). The audio is pre-rendered and pre-mixed for live, so I’m just playing back at most 8 audio tracks and a few MIDI tracks to trigger external gear.
It depends on the iPad. If it’s the most powerful, it will work perfectly with Cubasis. But if it’s a newer, budget-friendly iPad, it’ll be a pain. Cubasis can handle music of varying complexity. I have a Lenovo Tab P12 12.7" tablet with an 8/128GB memory and an 8-core processor, and it’s been able to handle Cubasis for now. If I were to create music like I would on a computer, my tablet wouldn’t be powerful enough. Cubasis has a lot of features for creating music and songs, but not all of them are used due to the device’s specifications.
More rigorous pre-release testing should take priority over new features i.e. new features are nice but if its going to break fundamental features such as drag and drop I’d rather wait than be without
I think you’re just wrong here. The A series processors are incredible efficient and powerful, especially in Cubasis using their multi-threaded audio engine. I’m using a 2018 A12x iPad, and it runs circles around AuV3s that take up to 20 percent CPU in other DAWs/Hosts. I can run projects that rival any desktop process.
Please do not compare an android tablet to the iPad in these ways, that’s absurd. Android does not care about audio and you are having an inherently worse experience just for it.
@maks_w you can start with anything. A16 is great, M1 is great, M4 is great, A12x is great. It’s all great. iPad is iPad until you really start to stress the system.
Just to add one more thought to my request for mix busses and better routing in Cubasis:
I would gladly pay twice or even three times the price of Cubasis if there was a “Pro” version with features like that.
Cubase has segmented its market with different feature levels at different price points, so I’m sure this is an active point of discussion within the Cubasis team as well
So, FWIW, I just wanted to throw my two cents in that there’s a segment of “pro” Cubasis users with very few products competing for their attention/needs, and that’s a market that’s willing to pay a premium for “pro” level features that aren’t as splashy as, say, new piano plugins, but are absolutely necessary for Cubasis to be useful in a pro setting.
This thread is greatly appreciated! (: I was just thingking ab bit in the bathroom about being lilited when loop recording. Its so dang hard to dig back through the recordings! I would like to cycle through them and keep one. I love moving through sections of a song making a skeleton and its not fun to stop and drag stuff around for 2 min just for wanting to loop record.
