did you know for e.g. if you add a new App to Apple AppStore, it takes time until they let it appear in the AppStore? Also maybe VSTLive host modification might also required for the new iOS version, but the pre-release needed to be postponed…
I think, we don’t need to wait long.

Hi @tunecreators,

I understand your frustration, and I’m sorry about the delay. Our plan was to release the updated MODS version (1.5.1) with yesterday’s Friday release (2.2.95/3.0.15), but we had to postpone it due to internal issues building the installers. We’re aiming to release it on Monday.

Thanks for a bit more patience,
Michael

PS : @fkalmus, @CliveJ thank you for your help.

Thank you

TBH, as promising as VST Live sounds, I’m genuinely disappointed. It has too many bugs and issues that make it feel incomplete, and it shouldn’t have been released as a stable version, especially since this is live software and it has to be rock solid. I find it even more surprising that this is coming from a big company like Steinberg!

The more I use it, the more issues I run into. Let alone the very primitive and inconsistent UI.

Here are some of the very annoying things that I’ve faced:

  1. If I have the virtual keyboard active and then open Preferences, the virtual keyboard stays on top of the Preferences window and I literally can’t press any button anymore. I have to force end the application via Task Manager.
  2. There is no delete button for tracks, layers, stacks, songs, or parts. I know I can cut, but this is the most basic functionality any software should have!
  3. You can’t select multiple tracks. At best, you can select two, and even that rarely works.
  4. You can’t select multiple layers, stacks, songs, and parts at all.
  5. I’ve had issues with inconsistent undo behaviour when it comes to parts or songs, where it doesn’t undo what I added, but keeps the item and makes it unclickable, as if it’s not there while it actually is.
  6. Crackles due to sample rate conversion (I’ve already reported that).
  7. It’s not possible to adjust an automation point directly unless you’re using the pen tool. With the select tool (good luck selecting an automation point btw), you can only input values in the boxes.
  8. It’s not possible to input a value in the layer’s pitch bend box.
  9. Vertical zooming via the mouse wheel is not supported.
  10. The mods app has never worked for me since VST Live version 1, regardless of all the troubleshooting.
  11. Manuals are abandoned and outdated. Many things from version 3 aren’t included at all.

I can’t comprehend how such basic functionality is missing or not working properly in a publicly released software from Steinberg. I do get why people say this should be a beta, which I agree with. I love Steinberg and have hope that this could be great software if implemented well. I appreciate the devs, but please don’t release such incompetent software before it’s ready. People will just move on, and this will end up as abandonware quickly.

On item 2: You can see the “-“ button ?

I can, but that’s an unusual way to implement it. Pretty much all software has a delete button when right-clicking an item, it’s just faster. There’s also no keyboard command for deleting these items (strangely, only layers have one).

Perfectly put, been through all of that.
Why it is not taken from cubase artist\light\elements and built up is a bit weird.
could use the same crazy file structures, file names, no need to export and things then dont work….

Right clicking brings up a menu, not buttons, but maybe I’m being pedantic about language.

Hello @YamenFahham,

Thank you for your feedback.

Oh, that’s a bug. But you dont need the Task Manager. Close the Preferences Dialog to get back. We’ll check that issue.

@CliveJ already mentioned it : There is a “-” Button. What do you expect?

I’ve tried to get it reproduced.

  1. Start VST Live, New Project
  2. Go to TRACKS
  3. Add MIDI Track
  4. Add Audio Track
  5. Select Both Tracks with shift
  6. Use “-” button or Right-Click with Cut.

The tracks are removed. Can you give me an example to analyse it?

Yes, I see. I’ll add it to our Todo-List.

I would need a step-by-step description, too. Is that possible?

… and @musicullum already replied there? It will be analysed. No? If not, then mention the link, please.

Yes, it could be tricky. We’ll add the “<” and “>” keyboard keys to go to the next or previous automation event. Okay? Or do you need more improvements?

Yes, good one. We’ll add it.

We’ll check …

A new version is on the way.

Do you know : VST Live Manual

What is missing?

Have a nice day,
Michael.

Hi @Spork, thank you for your response.

Sometimes both windows overlap when I open preferences. And since the Virtual Keyboard is on top, I can’t close either windows.

I expect a Delete option in the right click menu. Also, the Delete key on the keyboard should work everywhere, not just in layers.

I’m talking when I need to select more than two tracks. I’m unable to do that, I can only select two max and this also doesn’t always work, so I have to try multiple times.

This happened randomly and I can’t reproduce it constantly.

I’m listing all the issue that I’ve encountered so far in general.

I just expect it to have the same behaviour like Cubase. So you can use the select to directly adjust the automation rather than switching to the pen every time or using the value boxes. And also for the select tool to be able to select, it’s very tricky for some reason.

This manual is exactly what I’m talking about. I’ve only dealt with the preferences section and it was missing many things (and I expect this applies for the rest of the manual). For example, the MIDI and DMX tabs don’t even exist in the manual at all. The Transport tab is missing many options from the latest version.

I appreciate you looking into these and hope the mods app release will go well.

What do you mean? At least take a look at the Preferences settings. They’re probably still there from the first version.
Here’s an example: the Transport section.

It should be like this…

And you’re still wondering what else we need… Update the instructions to match the current version!

So, you should try drawing something with a pen in the automation after the 49th cycle))) We’ll see if you have enough patience and nerves, but the developers probably don’t have enough time to fix this… Bug in Automation List Editor Position - #11 by sergeantt67

Oh wow! I actually discovered even more issues just by trying to reproduce this.

  1. You can’t select or adjust tempo points using the selection tool. I wonder what the selection tool actually does then!
  2. You can’t zoom using the mouse scroll wheel in the Automation, MIDI, and DMX windows. You should use the sliders instead, which is very slow.

I’m surprised that some of these issues have persisted from earlier versions. I honestly don’t get why you would release newer versions while there are critical bugs and issues still present in previous ones.

I guess I’m already out of both, and I’ll probably be moving to Ableton soon. That’s really disappointing coming from Steinberg since all their other software that I use is brilliant and very stable.

Apparently, there are people at the helm who know how to demand results from their subordinates, but here… it seems like we should also thank them for being in a perpetual beta test) and beg them to fix it, please

And yet here we are, on a Sunday, and they’re replying to messages.

Spending time to read thru this seems wasted? What “critical bugs” do you refer to?
