Writing automation coming from another track's CC

hi, I have a midi track sending some CC to another track’s VST. In the VST it controls a macro knob.
When I move the macro manually, cubase writes automation data for it, although the CC data from my other track moving the same knob isn’t written to the automation lane.
Is there a way to do this? Is it the VST’s decision to send back automation data or not, or is it somehow configurable in cubase?

Does it write the automation, if you send the MIDI data (to control the macro knob) to the VSTi from any HW MIDI controller (I mean from outside)?
