At Thomann, the CC1 ranks last and has the worst reviews.
It’s pretty obvious that this product is a total flop on the DAW Controller market.
And now - there are no updates except for a few minor bug fixes.
It is strange there isn’t a single mention of this product on the Steinberg website. (Not that I could find, anyways)
Kind of a red flag, if you ask me.
Indeed, and I complained a lot when it was released (and after buying). But surprise suprise, since a few weeks it’s on my desk again, and in my specific set-up I suddenly realy like it.
It all has to do with the other gear you have (I have quite a few controller, as I’m a controller freak…), so I use the CC1 for one fader that is alright right (most of the time I only need 1 fader), for dedicated transport/channel controls IN THE SAME COLORS as Nuendo (can sound of less importance but in fact this really set my mind to rest!), 4 rotaries for 4 send controls (always right there for each selected channel) and a few handy short cuts.
So IN COMBINATION with my other controlers (stream decks, roto control, console 1 mini for Nuendo channel strip and SSL UF8 for MCU immersive music production - which is my core thing these days), these are unique functions in my setup, and I’m glad I didn’t send back my CC1.
I just like to have controlers with one function for each knob (I hate menu diving!).
But of course, if the CC1 is your only controler: stay away from it!
I also use it on w11 and it could be a very nice controller if Yamaha software was on the level of hardware. Their last july update is better but still shows a lack of attention:
- to communicate with Cubase they start a background process they unfortunately name Cubase… and when this process is running some other managers of plugin as Arturia or Waves refuse to install or update anything. You have to close the cc1 manager just to be able to install any plugin from these companies.

- next one is when you shut down your w11 pc, their software is dumb and pop up 2 windows with warning. Then w11 shut down keeps on running and closes everything after a delay. Annoying because it brings the cruel sensation of poor dev…
- last one is that there is one button in their cubase implementation which is still not working (I created a thread here about this without any answer
What is doing this knob on Yamaha CC1 . - and contacting their support is so hidden that I still have not found where it is.
But there is also a very positive side : buttons in the actual cubase dedicated pages are very usefull when they work. I specially appreciate the projet page with all the zoom features and hope they will add more pages on this.
In this same page, turning the buttons to scroll/ zoom horizontally project is very useful.
Clearly the software is 10% of the hardware potential. We need more dedicated Cubase pages using the usual streamdeck tree menus. And we need to be able to customize these pages as in a normal streamdeck app.
Here’s a statement to this:
Thank You for Your Continued Support - Steinberg Hardware / IXO Series - Steinberg Forums
Steinberg and Yamaha have also ended the further development of Nuage.
Just one question for those who have it or have tested it:
How are the action for the transport buttons? Are they as “smooth” as on my CC121?
I tried the old presonus faderport, but those buttons are much harder to push/operate.
Thanks in advance
You can email them techsupport@yamaha.com They’re fairly responsive. It looks like the last update was in July which is a bit dissapointing.
The buttons seem fine to me personally. I had a cc121 a long time ago and don’t remember what the button feel was like. These are clicky without being too firm imo.
Hi @Dave_Z , could you tell me if the CC1 button I refer in this post is working correctly on your CC1 ?
Many thanks
The knob works fine for the pages where it’s assigned to a function, unfortunately you can’t freely assign it yet for pages where it’s unassigned as far as i can tell.
Are there any new software updates for the CC1 ?
And what new features have been added ?
No update since last july…
Yamaha announced the next updates for winter:
https://de.yamaha.com/de/audio/music-audio-production/news/2026/0630-mgx-urx-cc1.html
While this is good news, I can’t help but feel frustrated. Winter release means after Christmas, right? That’s almost one year after the product release… That feels like a missed opportunity for hardware that felt actually solid, pretty well designed and built… Releasing the code for people to vibe code much better software would have been so much more efficient it seems…
This page is from june 2026, I would expect more from Yamaha.
I hope that Steinberg will participate to highly improve the poor Cubase layer…
It says “Improved Cubase Control Usability”. Whatever that means…
“CC1: MIDI Control function”
MIDI for a DAW Controller…
That would really be a sensation! I haven’t heard of anything like that yet.
