6.2 deprecates rehearsal marks paragraph style

Am I missing something? I loaded a score that had stylized rehearsal marks using the “Rehearsal Marks” paragraph style. This allowed me to control the enclosure shape, background color and the text color of the mark itself.

The “Rehearsal Marks” style still exists, but is not being used.

I created a new score, and it DOES use the Rehearsal Marks paragraph style.

There is indeed a glitch with Paragraph Styles having borders+background color:

I am all for the rehearsal marks updates (although even with this new release, rehearsal marks are still really problematic with regard to collisions. I guess that was not part of the reword.

My main concern is that I really don’t want to have to rebuild all of my “house style” templates from scratch. I was able to create an empty score, which does function properly with the Rehearsal Marks paragraph style. And I was able to merge the rehearsal mark settings from the empty score into my template. That succeeded in allowing the paragraph style to control. I did have to rebuild the settings for my rehearsal marks, but I didn’t have to rebuild the entire template.

If you have an older file where the rehearsal mark style does not work as expected in 6.2, I think the dev team would probably appreciate seeing a copy here. I guess you could delete all the music, or leave just a few bars to demonstrate the issue.

If the problem you’re seeing, Craig, is that your rehearsal marks are now lacking a coloured background as defined in the paragraph style, that will be fixed in a forthcoming update. If you’re having a different problem, please attach a project that demonstrates the problem.

The disappearance of background color was what got my attention. I thought other attributes of the paragraph style were also being ignored, but I may be mistaken abut that. I am about to work on revisions to another score that will likely experience the same situation, so I will pay close attention and send a file if it is more than BG color.

Hello Daniel -

I am having a similar issue - I opened an existing document that I had set Rehearsal marks through the Paragraph Styles to have a border and the border is no longer showing up.

I can get the border to show up if I use the Engraving Options dialog, but not from the paragraph styles.

Thank you.

Yes, this is the nature of the problem under discussion. We’ll fix this in the next update, as soon as we can.

I was able to resolve this situation with a somewhat serpentine workaround.

  1. I created a new empty score and verified that it was using the Paragraph Style.
  2. I saved that for the moment - let’s call it X.dorico
  3. In the problem score (let’s call that prob.dorico, I used Library Manager to import some of the settings from x.dorico. I’m not sure exactly what settings are required. I probably imported more than I needed. I think you may just need to import the Paragraph Style for Rehearsal Marks.
  4. Now prob.dorico should be using the paragraph styles again. You will now need to go adjust the paragraph style settings to get it looking as it was before 6.20.
  5. If you maintain a template file for this type of project, then you can use the same process to update your template.

After those steps, everything should work as it did before 6.20

It does not save custom colors, dorico 6.2

It’s a known bug.
