At My Wits End! Will There Ever Be a Fix?

The thing is this is not an issue on 12, just 13 & 14 so I just can’t see how it would be a hardware issue. CPU, like you say, is more than fast enough being a 5950X 32 core, I’ve stayed on AM4 platform for it’s stability. As for the GPU drivers, I contacted AMD who advised I use their Pro Driver as I don’t play games, I got it for video editing and it’s superp. It’s a 7900XTX which on paper is a monster.
I have tried everything, but it seems I’m not alone in experiencing these issues, so who knows what the problem is!

I don’t think that’s it. On my MPB M3 Max it does the same thing, unless you use the shift key, or a utility (PinchBar) in my case for alternate device gestures.

It’s as if the system is waiting for a “long click” event in the ruler before it registers that you want to zoom with the drag up/down. AFTER it registers that, it’s fast and smooth. And it even seems to “stick” in the acknowledgment of that “long click” for a few seconds after - you can click+drag around all you want. But if you sit there for 5 seconds or so, then the “long click” has to be recognized again. Shift+click+drag works great.

I don’t experience the “waveform disappearing” on my end, so I’m not sure what that means.

Once it initiates, it’s fine. It’s just the initial contact. The wave form thing? No idea…

Ok, got it.

Here’s someone else with the same problem regarding vanishing waveforms

So I’ve since discovered that turning OFF quick zoom solves the vanishing waveform, so if there’s any others that want to try this EDIT/PREFERENCES/ZOOM

Another issue I noticed that causes stuttering and my audio interface to crash which then needs unplugging was when I rebuilt my system I mistakingly plugged the interface into a usb 3.1 socket…this has caused other issues like my keyboard not working and locking me out of bios.

Not sure if this is just an older interface issue or not.

Using SPL Crimson interface

That seems to be legit as this is exactly what the preference is supposed to do as per Cubase manual:

Quick Zoom

Only redraws the contents of parts and events once you have stopped changing the zoom. This is useful if screen redraws are slow on your system.

Yeah, someone else with the zoom delay said that this was a possible fix, it wasn’t, it just gave me another problem haa!
I’m just so annoyed that I bought both 13 & 14 as by the looks of it I’ll never get to use any of them, and I honestly can’t see that any future offering will be any different.
The frustrating thing is that when Steinberg did eventually respond to my ticket they informed me that it was an old problem but it’s not a priority.

During the last couple of days I tried to get a this lag with drag zooming to replicate on my system. I have a 6 year old laptop with a RTX 2070 graphics chip.
On my computer the zooming always happens instantaneously, no lag. I try to figure out what could cause the lag on your side, but no luck so far.

One thing I always try if Cubase behaves strangely - running it on factory settings. There is a method to do this with the ability to restore your old settings afterwards if there was no improvement. Please mind the guide refers to Cubase 13, you need to look for the Cubase 14 folder instead.

Thanks for your replay John, I’ll take a look at this.
What I have done to counter it is to buy a track pad for my left hand, using pinch to zoom seems to work well, so I’ll just work around it this way.
Pretty good little system actually, mouse in my right hand and the left hand looking after both zoom and horizontal scrolling, only cost me £50 quid too!
I’m beginning to calm down a bit now, it’s been emotional haa!
In this studio as soon as you extinguish one fire another one begins, now I’m experiencing mini hangs in Cubase where everything just freezes for a few seconds.
It honestly never ends!

Yeah, once you get past the “forced adoption” emotional aspect of it and start focusing on workflow with a new input device magic can happen. I too used to have dual pointer/trackpad devices until switching to just a trackpad about a year ago. It’s been really, really nice. I skipped the whole trackball thing because I didn’t have great mental success with that in the past.

A feature I love which you may be able to use on Windows with your trackpad is to 4-finger swipe between desktops where I’ve got other mixer/pop-out windows set up. I use that all the time when off my dock and just using the MBP (and even when docked) and man, can really make a workflow difference.

Anyway, glad you’re making progress

What a strange bug… Here with CB13 and a simple Surface Pro 9 with just 8 Gb of RAM the zoom works instantly with no problem.
Hope it gets fixed soon…

Sorry I don’t have a suggestion for the zoom problem, but just wanted to add that another, marginally quicker, way to view the whole project is to do a CTRL-F (no preselection necessary).

Hi Alexis, I was curious so I tried. First, it is SHIFT+F.
But there is an important difference !
With this shortcut, it shows all, but based on the point where the locator is, so enlarged view.
(edit : I have markers in the split area at the top, those are factored in with this option, but they are NOT when I select at the bottom, works better for me)
With my shortcut to zoom to selection, the view is maximised to the whole project fits perfectly within the width of the window.

Thanks for the info, @Antoine-B !

I will go back and check mine - my recollection is that SHIFT-F does the same on my system as you describe your procedure does on yours, but of course I may not have that right. I also have an active marker channel, but no cycle markers, I wonder if that’s relevant.

Thanks again!
