Slightly disheartened to dig up pre-covid threads when looking into this issue :-/ here, here, and also for nuendo.
When I change audio interface/audio system, my External Effects connections keep getting broken. I have 6 stereo effects with stereo sends and returns, which I have saved as 6 favourites that have to be manually reset, every time. Instead of jumping into a project, I lose time and motivation to troubleshooting.
Further, part of the problem was describe here in 2017 - external effects seemingly cannot share the same inputs as standard input channels. I use these external effects as sends, but I also set up a track to record their output.
In Audio Connections, is there not a global “all ins/outs/connections” preset somewhere?
Why is inputs a preset for all inputs (I have about 40 inputs), but externals effects are only individual favourites?
Can’t it be possible that inputs remain linked if being used as inputs and for external effects?
Am I missing something? Or can something be done to remedy this?
It amazes me that this is still not working. I could scream at how annoying it is, and I often do. It’s crazy to me that every feature that’s great in Cubase basically does not work.
This is definitely one of the worst parts of Cubase. Every time I use external effects, I think “This would work so much better if Steinberg simply implemented this as a plugin with parameters like almost every other DAW does”.
I haven’t tried this but I would like for it not to be necessary. I wish there was a way for either global preset or to “reserve” inputs/outputs for specific devices and not lose them everything. In my setup I have multiple external devices, not just effects but potential audio interfaces/sources, depending on what I’m doing I don’t need them all on at the same time, but cubase routing breaks if anything changes. Would love for this to be addressed.
Having said that, I just came across this from another post, going to look into it, but I don’t think it helps for audio connections.
