Today, I discovered a rather nasty bug: When I want to browse for a certain sound (an accoustic clap, in fact) in my folders of samples, Cubase gets a whole bunch of error messages and I have to close it with the Task Manager (sometimes, it gives "application has stopped working message).
This is a rather serious error, as I still have lots of samples that I haven’t imported into Cubase.
I’m using the latest Cubase 6 and HALion 4.5 running in 32-bit mode on Windows 7 64 bit.
Looking at the error message, it doesn’t seem that you are in fact using the latest version of Cubase (It says “Faulting application name: Cubase6.exe, version: 6.0.0.229”… Try updating to the latest, which is v6.0.5 now.
I can’t say if this will help completely, but normally a lot of bug-fixes are sorted early on and we’ve had 6.0.1, 6.0.2 and now 6.0.5 if I remember rightly. Give it a go!
I have since updated, and the same thing happens. I can drag and drop from explorer, though. And it’s only one folder - all the others can be opened (AFAIK). Weird.
Can you tell me what you are doing - in detail. Which sample-name please? What are you doing with that sample?
I’ll try to do the same here to see if it crashes too. It could be that you simply have that sample on a bad hard-drive sector and it’s causing problems.
Have you run CHKDSK?
Do you have any PC “cleaners” such as System Mechanic etc, which may spot the problem for you?
System Mechanic has a fully functionning 30 day trial, for free, so I would download it and try it. It may find more than that error!!! I’ve been using it for about 3 years and it’s a great bit of software.

I have got similar crashes, but without rhyme or reason. I cannot reproduce it at all, it just happens. Sometimes I’m days without an issue, other times it will crash multiple times a day. Most times it will crash Cubase as a whole stating the faulting module was Halion 4.vst3 and I have to force close Cubase or it just hard locks while the rest of my computer works. This happens while browsing for samples, as well as dragging and dropping samples from the Halion 4 Mediabay, or Halion 4 Browser into a slot in Halion 4. This never happens when dealing with the Cubase Mediabay.
99% of the time when I get the crashes, I also get these solid grey textures covering portions of the Halion 4 main window.
Thread with picture is here.
I hope you guys can figure it out. It isn’t a show stopper, but really annoying when it does happen and there is a risk of losing work if you didn’t save for awhile when this issue creeps up.
