C12 - how to access SpectraLayers?

I haven’t used SL since C11 but I now have a need in C12 to use it once more. But…I have no idea how to access it? The word “extensions” it seems, does not exist anywhere with C12 now as it once did in C11. It was quite straightforward before, but now?

I appear to have have SL as a standalone app (9.0.20) but I prefer to use the app within C12… so how is it now accessed? I have had a bit of a look throught the forum but can’t find any specific reference.

Im not at the computer so I can’t say exactly but it should be found in the menu that pops up when you right click on a clip (if you have the toolbox, you’ll have to hold down the modifier key, ctrl on PC I believe). In that pop up menu, there should be an extensions option from which you can choose spectralayers.

I appreciate your input but sadly, no:
“it should be found in the menu that pops up when you right click on a clip”

Unfortunately, it does not. As mentioned in my original post:
“The word “extensions” it seems, does not exist anywhere within C12”

I have read the thread you have referenced… in particular:

Do one of the following:

** Select Audio > Extensions, and select an option.*
** Right-click the audio event, select Extensions, and select an option.*
** Click the Extension field on the info line, and select an option.*

None of these options exist.

As none of the options referenced exist on your end, I begin to have a doubt about your Cubase version as, from what I see here, ARA2 extensions support is available only in the Pro and Artist ones.

OK… In the Info line, do you have this, after left clicking on the Extension option ?

C13_InfoLine_Extensions

As mentioned in my original post: "The word “extensions” it seems, does not exist anywhere with C12 now as it once did in C11. "

So, no. There is no “extension option” in the info line.

Click audio, in the menu up top with file etc . Click extension, click spectralayers

Then, I’m afraid that SpectraLayers isn’t installed and/or registered correctly on your end (C12 Pro Operation Manual, p. 649)…

Quote “** Select Audio > Extensions, and select an option.*”
I’ve just run C12 and the above works for me, Spectralayers is there.
I’ve no ideas on how to fix this, sorry, unless re-install of Cubase 12?
Good luck!

No such menu option exists.

Is there more I need to do?

At this point, I would try to reinstall SpectraLayers, using the Steinberg Download Assitant, Cubase > Cubase pro 12 category. Keep us informed… :slightly_smiling_face:

I had the same problem when I first tried cubase 13. I never saw the extension menu, and when I bought SL pro, reinstalled, and activate it via activation manager, the menu appear. Same problem on 2 PCs

Hi Sherz, sorry, I meant to say, the option SHOULD be available in Cubase 12. I checked my C12 to make sure they hadn’t changed something!
I found the following thread, which implies re-install might cure it.

Yep, but I don’t think that using the Activation manager is required with SpectraLayers One (the basic version). I have it functional here, and never had to use the SAM for this…

Ah ha! Just did that…

and BINGO!

yeah sure I speak for my case , activation manager is just for SL pro

Great ! :+1: :slightly_smiling_face:

Unfortunately, now when I now try a vocal extraction the result is horrendous! I’m sure when I past used this in C11 I actually managed quite a good usable result but on this particular occasion it’s absolutely hopeless. Maybe I need to get in touch with Peter Jackson and co. and see if I can access the tech they used on the recent Beatles track “Now and Then” :joy:
