C15 from C13 - lost lyrics

As the title says, the lyrics that were there in C13, aren’t there in C15. While is still have C13, I would like to use the better looking score in C15.

So, how do I get those lyrics to appear?

Thanks

Hi azureblue,

This is a known issue with upgrading from Cubase 13 to Cubase 15. According to the Cubase documentation, lyrics from pre-C14 projects are not automatically imported when you open them in C15. This is because the old text and lyric events don’t have enough information to be properly recognized in the new format.

Here are a few solutions you can try:

  1. Check the List Editor: Open the List Editor and check if the lyrics data is still there but just not displaying in the Score Editor. If they’re there, they may just need to be re-associated with the notes.

  2. Re-import from MIDI: If you have the original MIDI file, try importing it into C15 fresh with the “Import Karaoke Lyrics as Text” option enabled in the Import Options (File > Preferences > MIDI > MIDI File Import Options).

  3. Manual Re-entry: Unfortunately, if the lyrics aren’t stored in a readable format, you may need to re-enter them in C15’s Score Editor. The good news is that C15’s score editor is much more efficient for this task.

For more details, see the Cubase Pro Help documentation on Import Options for MIDI Files.

Hope this helps!

Much thanks.. What worked was exporting as a midi file, then importing that. Exporting as music XML, works, too. The layout stay the same, but I had to expert to a new project, then copy / paste or drag into the the original project.

for a bit of background information see also the related thread from earlier today: Lyrics missing in cubase 15 (upgrade from 13)
and a longer conversation from end of last year, where we first introduced that change with Cubase 14: No imported text and chord events in the score editor of cubase 14?

Thanks for the background - progress never is without a bump or two.. IIRC, with C13, to jump to the next note, when entering lyrics, it used the tab button, instead of the space bar. Although the XML method means I have to create a new project to import into, I like that the layout stays pretty much the same.

The Lyric input method closely follows Dorico behaviour now.

Back again. The Mxml work around sometimes doesn’t work. Importing lyrics from a project from 13 / older, I can see the words in key editor, but again, they don’t show up in Score under the notes. But, if I click on a note, in the Text box (score page open, upper right corner)) , I can see the lyrics.. I can copy paste from the text box, then open “Text / v1.” in score and paste one word at a time.. Ack..
