Can't hear keyboard since updating to 5.1.8 in Dorico Pro, MacBook Pro M1

Hello. I’m very new to Dorico from Finale - I had some minor success inputting when I first changed over to Dorico - but since updating to 5.1.8 I don’t hear my keyboard while inputting or playing back, or with the files I created before updating. I can input notes in the staves but no sound. It’s probably something stupidly simple - but I still don’t know my way around well enough to know how to fix this. Any help would be welcome. Thank you. Bob

We’ve had another report of that here: No sounds on note input after updating to Dorico 5.1.80 - #19 by Richard_Lanyon

I’m unable to reproduce the problem myself, though. My guess is that it will be related to one of the Preferences listed in that other thread - if you can work out which one it is then that might help us understand what’s going on here.

Also, could you do Help > Create Diagnostic Report and post the diagnostics here, so that I can compare with the other thread?

Thank you for the prompt reply. I had seen another thread about checking preferences in Play/recording and tick the box about filtering out midi-controllers but that didn’t seem to do anything - so I unticked it. Where do I find the create diagnostic report - is that in Dorico or here somewhere? Thanks again.

Never mind I found it! I have a bad habit of asking before looking sometimes! More soon.

It downloaded some diagnostic folders to my desktop - do I drag them into here?

Yes, if you could drag the zipfile onto here that’d be great.

Dorico Diagnostics.zip (525.2 KB)

is this a private DM with us? I always worry it’s posting in a thread and I’m rambling on about what I don’t know! lol

We’re all here

Ahaha. I’ll try to sound smarter then!

It isn’t a private DM no - if you want to do that you can click on my icon here and then on the “Message” button. There’s no problem in asking for help publicly though - often the normal users will know as much if not more than Steinberg people, and they may be able to respond quicker.

I’ll have a look at the diagnostics shortly…

Thanks - I wish I knew my way around some of the set up things better – I’m FEELING like it’s something there. Since I’m receiving midi and able to input notes, it’s connecting - just no input/playback sound. Thanks. I may have to step away soon - but I’ll check back.

Ah, I didn’t read your original post correctly - so you don’t have any sound during playback, as well as during MIDI input? OK, I don’t think that’s related to the other thread, then. Looking at your diagnostics, I think the problem may be something to do with your audio device setup. Can you go to Edit > Device Setup and ensure you have the correct device selected?

Okay - well you were right. I went to device set up and for some reason output device was unticked. So I selected and have play back now and can hear during input too. Thank you for your help. Bob

I hope you get a reply - I also updated to Dorico Pro 5.1.8 and have lost playback sound. I’ve gone through the various changes in Open Sound Settings, Open Volume Settings, and Spatial Settings (off). I also ran troubleshoot sound program which insists everything is fine.

@morbius12, please do Help > Create Diagnostic Report and attach the resulting zip file here so we can see what might be going on. In the meantime, you should also check the settings in Edit > Device Setup.

My issue was resolved and was something in device set up that got unticked with the update. I was getting midi signal but I just don’t know Dorico well enough to dig into that stuff without some help. It was trying to playback through my external monitor I think. Anyway - just clicked the right port and I’m fine now.

I’m also not used to this immediate level of response! It’s very nice to get help so quickly - umm Finale…I’m not sure I ever got help from someone at the company. I look forward to writing MANY more “help” posts as I try to learn a new program!

Just upgraded to 5.1.8. No sound when I play MIDI keyboard. No playback sound either. Help!

Does this have anything to do with my problem? I’m opening a template that I purchased from a third party.
