Agreed
I was considering purchasing Cubase Pro. Unfortunately, this issue is the primary reason I found this software to be unusable. Other ways in which this DAW operates I could see myself adjusting to, being a proficient Pro Tools and Logic user. But the fact that merely navigating around the project using the scroll wheel might result in a catastrophic change to a carefully constructed musical balance is outrageous.
Iām sure itās just a drop in the ocean, but Steinberg just lost themselves a customer, and gained themselves a very vocal critic who will tell all the music makers I know to avoid this software. Fix this, and maybe Iāll take another look.
They lost a customer and you lost a DAW. I bought Cubase 4 years ago, and every single day Iām thankful I did. In 3 weeks this feature will come donāt make any bad decisions.
Any inside info or are you just guessing?

Mouse wheel should work as a project navigation tool only, not as a mix control tool. Currently it works as both, and Iāve already messed up my faders, automations, and EQ section of the mixer multiple times because of this.
Here are my thoughts of how it should work:
Mouse wheel: navigation only (canāt change faders or any project values)
CTRL + Mouse wheel: mix control (can move faders and other project values)
I donāt know if this is also an issue when using a trackball, but mouse users do exist.
Sorry but this sounds as excuses. You can keep the standard behaviour as is, then add a optional preference to disable mouse wheel parameter change, then a child preference to enable modifier + mouse wheel for parameter changes.
Then everybody will be happy.
Itās actually much longer than 4 years. Just search the forum for Mouse Wheel

+1 indeed !
+1 again, again and again!
The chance of accidentally hovering over a knob with those tiny scrollbars nowadays while scrolling down the list in the vsti side panel and not knowing what changed or happened is absolutely a massive problem āBUGā for me in Cubase! And the worst thing is there is no undo history to see what changed! Youāll just have to deal with it and hope you can recreate the sound you had before or go back to a former version? For me this actually feels like a huge āBUGā in Cubase that often has interfered with my workflow!
At least make the changes that occurred on the quick controls in the right panel undo-able so we can at least see what dial you accidentally changed! As it is now you have no fallback option whatsoever! If you accidentally changed something and you can hear it thereās no way to see where and what went wrong! IMO itās more a very bad bug than an option!
But we also have to acknowledge that some people seem to like this option? So please, please give us that hate it and see it as a bug that kills our workflow the option to disable it!
So AGAIN! Please make this setting available to either enable or disable mouse fader movements in the mixer window and/or the vsti side panel!
As noted by many people by now, it would be highly appreciated! Thank you so much for listening to your customers!
Howās this even still a issue today.
Still messing my values and having to be extremely careful when scrolling.
Fix it alreadyā¦
What exactly is ideal then? Besides doing absolutely nothing.
Do you see the problem? Thereās been multiple solutions laid out in this thread, most of which have the support of your user base, and the devs might as well be saying āthat wonāt work because we donāt feel like itā.
I know that itās a complicated issue. I know that this could unravel some systems which could take quite a bit of work. But dude. This thread is over 4 years old with hundreds of replies and almost unanimous support. Itās safe to say it officially needs to be a priority
+1 there NEEDS to be a pref for this. come on
+1 for this. Depending on what mouse youāre using, it often leads to errors.
Nah, this is not even complicated.
Steinberg could implement easily to make the mixconsole scroll when hitting ALT while scrolling and be done with it. AFAIK Alt+Scroll does absolutely nothing in Cubase and would be a free modifier.
Heck I even did it myself with autohotkey and it works flawlessly. If I can do it, why shouldnāt SB?
No it wouldnt, it would actually increase usability.
I would do it the other way around. Only change parameters when using ALT. Mousewheel is for scrolling. But make it user definable for users who prefer the current behaviour.

On the one hand, the mixer is designed to scroll or open and close a thousand tabs. On the other hand, you always have to pay close attention to where you scroll, otherwise you will change parameters here and there. The mixer. I love it, I hate it.

The mixer is a dangerous place to be scrolling.
Hello everyone. Any news on this mouse wheel thing in Cubase 13? Is it now optional or is it unchanged? Iām really curious on thisā¦
Thanks!
