Nuendo 13 is here! Its best features?

It’s possible that they felt it would sell more Cubase copies. I’m betting within the Cubase market far more people are on headphones making beats or whatever and would like a feature like this one. Sadly more people in post are probably on cans as well.

You could very well be right though that it receives few updates going forward. I guess we’ll see.

I think @UK.SANTS is hoping for something that is not there. Reason Studios (what used to be Propellerheads) withdrew the ReWire SDK, so all the other vendors pulled ReWire support. It is inconceivable that Steinberg would remove ReWire support from Cubase and Nuendo after Reason Studios’ announcement only to put it back in Nuendo but not Cubase. Moreover, you get no hits if you search the Nuendo 13 manual for ReWire.

ReWire is dead; it won’t be coming back.

There seem to be a lot of nice new features and tweaks in there, but can VST2 plugins still be used in N13?

It might be a small thing, but for Windows users, “Nuendo 13 features Windows-compliant multi-window handling” is an ‘at last’ moment. Nuendo 13.0.10 finally has windows that behave like other software, rather than the weird parent window that was often transparent other than a menu bar.

Thanks David, that’s what I thought, I loved to use Reaper as a ReWire Slave for its sound design capabilities.

Yes, other than when running native on Apple Silicon. However, considering Steinberg’s deprecation of VST2, I would expect Cubase/Nuendo 13 to be the last major version with VST2 support.

I think there is no chance of that. There was an introductory discount on upgrades when Nuendo 12 was released, but there is no introductory discount on upgrades to Nuendo 13.

I would not expect any discounts on Nuendo 13 until at least the spring and more likely the summer.

Well, when you put it that way… :money_with_wings:

ReWire - It is a special protocol for streaming audio between two computer applications, developed by Propellerhead Software and Steinberg.

I may be going mad then. Fresh new update for Nuendo 13 and still running an outdated protocol. Difficult to understand.

Ok, so since I complain but follow along, I bit the bullet (Tonal Match and strip silence being a big part of the charm).
I must say, the new mixer is much worse than I thought.
The all white stuff isn’t that bad, but the new mixer is just downright UGLY AS HELL. Whoever is responsible for this just has no sense of aesthetics at all.
Look what they’ve done to my boy… They massacred my boy…

BUT finally the buttons and panners don’t stretch anymore when you pull the lower zone up, which is a big plus!

I hope they get someone to fix this monstrosity… oh my god its ugly.

Here, Nuendo’s starting cost is $1,527.00 U.S. That’s $305 U.S. for the N13 update.

The cost of PT Ultimate is US$1,460.53. That’s US$380 for the update.

Just to make sure we’re talking about the same thing, what exactly do you want?

For me PT Ultimate shows as costing a whopping U$D 599 per year! No options of perpetual license unless I reach for an authorized dealer.

Did we get a working Mute-button with VCAs in Nuendo 13?

Of course, you’re talking about subscription. But I wanted to compare similar rates, so for the purchase.

Well, I was responding to " improvements in exchange with editing software…" I was thinking of this:

Avid Media Composer Enhances Interoperability with Pro Tools to Accelerate Workflows for Video and Audio Post Production Teams | Avid Technology, Inc.

Your screenshot took some finding - it’s on the Nuendo Features page when you open the General area fully.

There is no ReWire option in the Nuendo 13.0.10 Studio menu, as you would expect (because there is no ReWire support!):

The mention on the website is clearly some old advertising copy that should have been deleted. Can you get it sorted out, @TimoWildenhain ?

It is exactly the same update price we had for Nuendo 10, 11 and 12. Adjusted for inflation, it has gotten even cheaper

This is the great advantage of having the leading editing software in your product range.

I see. It’s the first time I update Nuendo, I come from the lowly Cubase land, where everything is cheaper, hence my impression. Or so I guess.
Thanks!
