Folder tracks with group functionality? One step forward, but one step back? I spend a lot of time in the project window and I can’t really see how I’d be able to navigate as easily as I do now without being able to see what’s in the folders. Just having an automation line does nothing for me except for adjusting automation. Not sure if this is a net positive for me. (I also hope that the system allows for undo/redo of all track routing as they are moved in and out of these folder-groups, because it would suck if you move a track by mistake and lose all routing without an undo to get it back).
Folder tracks in the mixer is good to see though.
Intelligibility measurement in the analyzer track seems good.
*Automation panel resizing *, nice.
Automation Punch-out per-track. I guess that’s nice. I’m not sure the last time I needed that though.
Automation copy-paste. Great! I could see this being very useful and used all the time.
Channel-count conversion, see above. Would have wanted it to be like PT.
MXF and video improvements are welcome, and I’m sure some of the other features already introduced with Cubase 15 will be useful, like reveal parameter on write.
Overall, there are several things that I view as pretty much essential that I have on my feature request lists and none of them are addressed. Some of them are issues that drive me nuts and I’ve lived with for years, some that got worse recently with no fix in sight, and some are just features that really need to be changed or enhanced.
I have to say this is probably the most underwhelmed I’ve ever been with a Nuendo release. Will copy-paste be a feature worth $160? Because that’s literally the only thing I’m excited about. Unless of course we will get a promise that DOP and other things will get fixed in the v15 cycle and not for v14 in which case I’ll curse and open up my wallet, or if Steinberg for some very strange reason is sitting on a bunch of other great stuff that just didn’t make it into the video.
One of the many things. It’s such a visual mess and paradoxically a simultaneous information overload/underload. Everything just blends into a user experience nightmare.
The new automation and folder features are nice, but paying 199 USD mainly for that feels high while basic workflow issues like batch video export with proper naming by markers are still not solved.
Moreover, I did not see any uniqueness from the cubase version in this update (the only one is the analyzer), all these functions are inherent now or will be inherent in cubase, but the nuendo upgrade fee is higher. It’s kind of unfair.
You’re paying for the features that were added to Cubase since they are also added to Nuendo, and you are paying for features that get added to Nuendo that don’t get added to Cubase. You’re paying for two programs. So, $200.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the Analyzer Track doesn’t get added to Cubase. Same with ‘Write on Play’, The advanced Video Options Cubase might not get.
We’ll see, you’re presuming a lot… and, they said this a glimpse.
I think they usually have more new features than the promo videos show. In the past I’ve compared to what’s on the web page for “new features”. Obviously the most “sexy” ones are the ones that make it into the video, so to me the only question is just what those unmentioned ones are. Unless it’s different this time around. Plus, the video felt “short”.
That was my first thought when I saw the video, too. Even Excel is clearer I have nothing against a “dark design,” but it’s easy to lose focus. For example, I think if the group or FX tracks don’t contain any automation, the horizontal lines should be hidden. The zoom in the plugins is also outdated—only fixed increments. I love my TRacks plugins. Continuous zoom, the plugins are stylish and easily recognizable, and I can even read the values without my glasses. I recently saw a Logic video. The guy dragged a selection rectangle over specific channels in the mixer with the mouse and changed several channels simultaneously—without any Q-Link. I think Steinberg software should become more intuitive again.
