Temporary closure of the Steinberg online shop

Asknet’s insolvency proceedings were officially opened on September 25, 2023.
Apparently the court rated asknet Solutions AG’s chances of restructuring as positive and appointed a provisional administrator in its decision dated September 25, 2023. Asknet would therefore like to continue.
Therefore, the accounts will probably continue to exist.

Steinberg could probably have even leisurely looked for a new payment service provider. And then in a few weeks change the payment service provider overnight. But you certainly couldn’t have predicted that in September 23. Therefore, a quick decision to close the shop was probably necessary and correct.

I am now in total incertitude. I have bought this summer the crossgrade from Cubase 12 to Nuendo 12, but as I was packing my studio equipments to leave Paris for province, I though that activating Nuendo was not urgent and may be I could benefit of a free crossgrade to Nuendo 13 when available, just before or after my moving.
But now, my studio is 90% dismounted and packed (especialy my audio interface and monitors), I have only 2 computers with poor local 'windows audio. On 10/28 I will start reinstalling everything .
What to do with this Nuendo license, is there any chance I can benefit from a grace period and get Nuendo 13 if I activate it in beg november.
This incident broke all the planning I had prepared for my relocating.
The new situation with no dates is annoying.

If you have not yet used the Download Access Code you received for your Nuendo 12 crossgrade, then you will be eligible for a grace period update if you wait until Nuendo 13 is announced before you redeem your DAC. From what I can see in your account, you do not appear to have redeeemed a Nuendo 12 DAC, so I think you’ll be fine. Just wait until Nuendo 13 has been announced, and your Nuendo 12 crossgrade will magically become a Nuendo 13 crossgrade.

Thanks for clarification.

I wonder whether the announcement of a new sales shop (Asknet replacement) being open will precede or be simultaneous with the announcement that Cubase 13 is available for purchase.

Holy smoly , your relocation was all worked around guessing when Steinberg would be releasing Nuendo 13 or just activating your N12 crossgrade ? Wow ,either way that’s a very fragile way to run things ,a recording environment shouldn’t rely on whether a shop has something for sale or not .
I can’t understand people being ANNOYED . Have we lost money , are we owed money , in fact , are we owed anything ? Does anywhere state that we will be guaranteed updates ? Not as far as i know so just be thankful we have everything we need to work with right now , any future software creations are just a bonus

Not so, you have to take bugs into account, many people using cubase 10 and 11 because of bugs in 12, beside 12 is easier to activate and more portable with new license system. Let’s put on side “there is no bug free software” Steinberg long term practice is to release 2-3 maintenance updates per version and that’s it, some bugs gets resolved and some gets resolved in new versionS(S because some needs several versions to get smashed)

Lot of people including myslef will happily pay for an update with 0 new fancy features but rather vast bugs fixed or existing features improved workflow wise and far more better quality control (Saw that in 13 some things are redesigned which often happened that something that worked might not work now how used to be)

Anyway hope that shop will be up and running soon :slightly_smiling_face:

When the new shop opens, we will definitely have a period of normal daily business without any major new product releases to ensure that everything is running smoothly.

From your analogy then software should never stop because there’s no software without bugs .

I believe because of the old code Cubase is based on ,Steinberg needs to 'Break ’ things to move things forward so if you have a 100% BUG free Cubase or other software then that Software has reached it’s EOL evolution scale BUT that doesn’t give us entitlement to having life time support or updates . Take Camel Audio , pulled the plug on PC users without a word .

I am all for “When its ready™” release philosophy but since this are really special circumstances maybe Steinberg should give us some estimated timeframes for new shop and software releases so people can calm down and plan ahead. Plus this would give Steinberg some space to sort all out.

Your answer looks more as a personnal attack, I don’t know why ?
Yes there were plans for my relocation and my studio was a part of them, small but a part.
Inside the plans there was financial section as buying larger display monitor for Nuendo, may be upgrading to a better video card, then buying Cubase 13 upgrade. So all this has been changed. If I can’t get my hand on Nuendo before months, may be I will install the crossgrade now just to get inside its differences with Cubase, or maybe I will wait for v13 and in this situation won’t buy a larger display, and upgrade my graphic card, which impacts the way I iphysically nstall my new studio. Etc.
This is not because I publish my own concerns here that I act as a pure AI and I am the sum/average of people frequenting internet, it is just to have answers… which can help or not people in similar situations.

Missing the point here, I am talking solely about Cubase and the fact that 2-3 maintenance updates per version are not enough considering amount of bugs we have(broken workflows included here) like for ex: custom mediabay tags were broken upon release of 10.5 (November) and it gets fixed after 3 months. Those 3 months 10.5 was no go for me. There are lot of similar topics here and on other forums that people paid for an upgrade and they cannot use it cause something gets broken that was worked fine.

Agree on here but you cannot break window to fix the roof, as I mentioned better quality control and more beta testers would lead to better baked product on first release, remember 7.5 and 9.5 versions they were most well baked versions imho and by many users which in fact uses them still today.

No personal attack , just not understanding why you would run a studio so fragile that the closer of the Steinberg shop for a month would cause you such heartache but if you consider that as an attack then … I have no more needs to reply to you

But you know Nuendo is coming ? so why can’ t you still prepare for the eventuality thats all im trying to point out , there’s no personal attack , but you have worded a part as thou it’s Steinberg fault you can upgrade your hardware

then next message

… I would appreciate you do what you declare, thanks.

Then you should do the right thing and shut up and let it go instead of coming back 4 hours later to post another round and try to start it all over again.

It won’t happen. I mean the part with people calming down. That would necessitate that people would only act rationally. We just need to look at the forums to see that this is not the case for all and that is not meant to be critique at these people. A lot of customers are musicians, artists. Often artists are rather emotional than rational. That helps when creating music. It doesn’t help when dealing with a closed online shop.

Just imagine Steinberg would tell a date now and they will not be able to meet that date due to some unforeseen circumstances. Quite a few people wold be annoyed, half of them cursing Steinberg for not keeping their promises, the other half asking for everything to be free for at least half a year. Steinberg cannot win.

The one thing I cannot understand is people wanting freebies because a shop is… closed? ??? ??? Has anyone seen that in real life? Early Monday morning, someone demanding a free bottle of milk, because “I came yesterday to buy milk and you weren’t open”?

Without necessarily talking about a reopening date, have you found a new partner for your online shop ?

Yes, we have. We are working on finalising the contractual terms at the moment.
