The New MIDI Remote is

ok, I created a new script with editor! It works  Sorry for that!

Since I’ve been a Cubase user for years, I have never for the life of me figured out how to use the quick controls, midi device manager, and now midi controller functionality. I have a Nektar LX61. How do I start to figure this all out?

what is the difference between quick controls and the new remote controller capability?

Biggest difference (for me) is being able to map on the fly easily, searchable list of functions, and the addition of ‘focused’ Quick Controls, this means each plugin has it’s own set of 8 controls that can display at the top of each plugin window.

You can also lock and unlock onto the plugin window that is in focus.

Before that we had 8 QC parameters per track, now you could have 8,16,24,32,40…etc per track. depending on number of plugins that can be focused.

On-screen reference to what page and mapping you’re on, is always a massive improvement.

Quick Controls is a feature that does what we call “software-software-mapping”. You can define a set of favourite parameters to access them in a quick way within the software. No need to control them using a hardware midi controller.

But if you do map those quick controls to a hardware midi controller (“hardware-software-mapping”), you have a strong setup that has great haptics and that’s decoupled from further changes you do on the “software-software-mapping” side.

Is there a way to position a fader horizontally in the MIDI Remote?

That’s your template in the opening post. Can you or someone please clarify if you can interact with your created template if you choose too with the mouse.

I have to highlight this because many users had to use plug in chainers to overcome focus issues or simplify midi mapping or unresizable plugins .Your template could be a plugin chainer.

The users of the elements versions did not even have midi plug ins.

Sadly, Nope you can’t control anything by clicking or moving the on-screen controls.

It’s early days as yet though, perhaps it’s something people will ask for as it would be really handy for touch screen users too as you can pop the remote out into it’s own window.

Thanks for confirming… I thought it was an enhanced version of the Control link in Studio One. I also anticipate that it will evolve into a full screen macro chainer controller.

I have the KORG - nanoKONTROL Studio, but Cubase does not detect it.

Hi @Andre1, as there is not yet a factory script for it, please use the Surface Editor to create your own integration.

Is there a way to have a control (like a button) just transmit a note event? With Generic Remotes, if I didn’t configure the control then it would just transmit what it’s default value was in the controller. For example, I have a Novation ZeroSL MkII. My Generic Remote configuration for this device doesn’t configure the buttons, as I have the buttons set up on the hardware to transmit MIDI notes for executing key switching. However, if I set up a new MIDI Remote and do not configure the buttons, Cubase doesn’t see the MIDI event. Is there any way to have the new MIDI Remote have a “bypass” feature for the control so that the MIDI message coming directly from the controller can be passed to Cubase?

BTW, excellent job on C12!! You set the bar high for Nuendo 12!!

As long as you don’t learn that control to the gui it should bypass through to the timeline.

If you learn that control to the gui, and it has no mapping it will be blocked from going to the timeline. So make sure to not add it at all.

I like the slick graphics, If you use only Cubase, without 3rd party VST’s the new function looks comprehensive. I understand this opens up controllers to a much wider audience and that is good.

I do feel I’ve lost functionality for 3 rd party VSTS, because I’m not Java programmer. Generic Remote let me go beyond Quick Controls limits of 8 Track + 8 VST slots; so I could control a complete SSL channel strip with a BCR2000.

I don’t see how I can replicate what I did with Generic Remote with MIDI Controller unless I’m missing something? Cubase Manual lists “Generic Remote” as (Legacy). Hope they don’t drop it completely or better yet add full VST control to the new Programming Assistant.

The big problem that i’ve found is that you could technically do this with the new remote, but it’s linked to the mixer channel/track. There used to be a ‘selected’ option in generic remote where you could control an SSL on any track, providing it was in the same slot of that mixer (i.e. slot 1).

They need to put this functionality in, really. Or they will be moving in the wrong direction if we can only map to specific instances on specific tracks, it’s a step backwards in that regard right now.

It does a lot good, but you can see it’s a feature that has some growth to continue along.

I cannot get MIDI remote to see my Korg NanoKontrol2
I’ve tried re-installing C12 with Avast security all turned off. No joy.
The C12 installation on my old MacBook sees NanoKontrol2 just fine, but on my MacPro, no luck. Both running Catalina. I just get a blank page as per screenshot:

Any ideas?

Thanks

and here’s what I get in Remote Manager

has anyone been able to set up their mixer control? I can’t get the banking to work. When I assigned a bank button to my controller and moved it around, the mixer can no longer be controlled

I attempted this last night with a Korg Triton Taktile and noticed it’s unresponsive as well.
