Hi,
I have recently bought a UR22 mkII. Connected to my Lenovo T61 with Win7 64bit without any issue. Driver installation was a piece of cake and the device was recognised immediately. I have attached my midi keyboard, plugged my condenser mic for my tenor sax and my son’s bass guitar. Set the audio interfaces in the sound applications, set the right gain, input levels. Was keen to have a very first sound track recorded. OK said, let’s just do a warm-up, a little practice then shoot for a trial and record a track with this nice, solid black box.
Yes, this is how my relationship with the UR22 mkII has began. What has happened after was just the same and frustrating nightmare as many people posted before.
I had to put aside the instruments and had to start my research on what went wrong. Checking, cables, another USB port, even attached an external power supply. Nothing helped so far. Just glitches, cuts randomly. Blinking USB led.
After looked around in several forums, went further and deeper I was kind of shocked. What ???
I could not believe what I have read and seen. I was totally upset. I have seen too many things to try and set and change. A big WHAT??? again. I was even at the point to give up and pack this black brick back to its box and return to the seller.
I gave it a chance, however I have spent a massive amount of time on researching. Tried with smaller settings first on USB power settings, another USB ports, CPU throttling etc. I had small results but the cuts came back, always. After that I went rather towards a radical direction by making a windows clean install to rule out any possible interference with any other already installed drivers, software.
Started adding the drivers one-by-one with a continuous sound testing. Finally managed to identify the problematic combination. The UR22 mkII interfered with the NVIDIA (Quadro NVS 140M) video driver. Updated the video driver to the latest one available in the Lenovo site seemed resolving the issue. The music is playing now without a single cut. I have been testing it since Saturday night (24th Sep).
Another observation was before the video driver update if the CPU was on a higher load the cuts disappeared (?).
Due to the clean install, I accidentally left the idle time and screen switching action untouched in the High Performance mode. When the machine was idle for 10 minutes the display went off while it was playing music a tremendous cuts happened. It confirmed me that the video driver and the UR22 still having issues with each other. I immediately switched off the screen timeout timer. No cuts so far.
No other drivers, interfaces are disabled. I.e. both LAN and Wifi are on. I even used my USB scanner while the music was played. Worked fine.
However, I am not fully convinced still. If it starts cutting again when I am doing my recording… (will test that next week). I keep the original packaging at hand to return it.
Sharing with the hope, it helps others.
