UR22 mkII - Audio dropouts problem

also have this problem with mi new UR12
i tried everyfing , different drivers, energy options, turbo boost disable, different usb ports , disable Lan , wifi and nothing works :frowning:

After repeated testing
DAC works on old computers without this problem

Looks like we have to wait for new chipset drivers or Microsoft updates

Hope Steinberg can help report this issue to them

I have the same dropout issue with a Dell XPS13 (Intel Core i5-7200) and an UR22mkII.
However, it seems to be working when the interface is connected to a desktop PC.

My guess (based on the fact that the laptop heats up significantly around the USB connector to which the interface is connected) is that the laptop can barely provide enough power for the interface over USB. I tried to power the interface with an external power supply, but that doesn’t seem to work, it won’t turn on.

I disabled the Processor Boost Mode in the advanced power management settings of Windows 10, but it didn’t help.

I found a new solution
But no one mentioned this setting surprised me

We all know to disable any energy saving settings on the DAW system

Recently there is a setting for a new computer (sorry, the last computer has been used for ten years)

In the BIOS there is a platform called Platform Power Management

Disable this option
One of the most harmful is one of the options (DMI ASPM)

DAW system is really different from the system used daily

Especially in the current requirements for energy saving, the impact on the system will be more in the future

Hope this helps

doesn’t work:

  • disabling Turbo boost
  • disabling EIST
  • installing on virginly clean windows 10
  • capping CPU utilization to 99%
    and…
I split usb cable half to PC and half to 1A 5v PSU - and it also DOESN"T WORK!! How come? I’m totally desperate, i’m getting those dropouts 3 years already out of the box.

I had the problem with
In VST Audio System I’m getting this error message:
“Audio interruption due to USB error is detected. Refer to the troubleshooting in the operation manual.”

Using UR28M and Nuendo but still might be useful - I had an external drive connected via a USBC card connected to my PC. I had Nuendo open and I tried to dismount the drive but for some reason Nuendo was using the drive. I closed Nuendo, dismounted the drive. Restarted Nuendo and the error message was no longer showing.

Hello
Today I also tried a new usb cable and it did not work either.
I sent an email to steinbergussupport@yamaha.com and they do not give me support because I am outside of USA.
i’m very disappointed with steinberg …

Hi friends,I have got a problem with my Steinberg UR22 mkII, during recording its not picking the sound and heavy distortion sound is coming out while increasing the gain. Ian using the daw for the last four yrs and facing such problem for the first time .My UR22 mkII is connected to a MacMini and using Logic ProX. Can anybody help me to sort out the problem?

Same here! Frequent short audio dropouts on a UR22mkII, that sort of seem to fade back in one channel after the other. Tried disabling turbo boost and hyper-threading, tried different drivers, cable and port changes, nothing worked.

And honestly even if something like disabling Turbo-boost would’ve worked that still doesn’t sound like an acceptable solution, as I don’t really want to compromise my machine’s performance, particularly since this issue only seems to happen on this particular sound card (no problems using a Scarlet 2i2 second gen or a RME Fireface UCX on the same machine)

I have the same model of Asus laptop. Updating the BIOS to Version 308 solved the audio dropping problem for me.
Here’s a direct link to the Asus page: ASUS Global
I used the BIOS Update(Windows) one from that page.

Hi friends
I also have the problem with dropouts. In the meantime I bought a new, faster PC with an Intel i7 (3600 MHz) but it’s even worse than before. 20 years ago I had a very weak PC but Cubase was working well. I cannot understand, why Steinberg isn’t willing or isn’t able to fix this problem.

@Steinberg: Up to now I didn’t read, that you are working on an solution for that problem. Is that really true?

It’s worth checking your USB power settings and make sure they can’t power off/suspend. Windows 10 by default will suspend in some cases. I find most of these steps are good for configuring your machine for audio work.

You basically want to set the machine to highest performance settings and also stop Windows background processes interrupting the DAW and the driver processes. Antivirus and Anti-malware can cause problems too. Worth a go. I can’t really comment too much on using it solely as something to use with YouTube though. I try to keep my audio recording machine off the internet unless I really need to.

I haven’t followed this one myself yet but Steinberg has their own help page for DAW setup on W10:

I notice they don’t recommend putting 2.0 into a 3.0 port. I have never encountered issues with this myself.

Having this exact “Audio interruption due to USB error is detected. Refer to the troubleshooting in the operation manual.” on my desktop DAW with UR28M. Of course, there’s no mention of this in the UR28M manual at all.
I know the cause must nbe a recent thing, because I’ve never experienced this before. Thinking if the last windows 10 updates could be the cause, as they screwed other stuff, or the latest drivers from Steinberg. I’m almost sure this never happened before, I started seeing this message and the dropouts since they introduced the Mode (Standard/Stable/Low latency) in the soundcard buffer settings.
Funny (or frustrating) thing is that I experienced this with just a test session with a single audiotrack with 2 plugins, soothe and blackrooster audo LA3A plugin. Buffer settings are conservative.

Any pointers/suggestions?

Tried disabling Turbo with no success. This is quite frustrating, this DAW was smoking as it is, just a couple of weeks ago. Something must have changed recently either a damn windows update or the most recent drivers, wich were updated recently If I remember correctly. Has anyone moved back to a prior release of the drivers?

I did a little more testing, switch the driver to my Eleven Rack Asio driver, wich to me always seemed like an inferior driver in regards to low buffer settings and latency. Anyway the same session that I was working with ran just fine. Lower the buffer settings of the Eleven Rack ASIO driver to the minimum, got 5ms latency. Playback, everything still running smooth, opened and closed plugin windows just fine, video also playing back just fine. Basically I did all the things that were triggering the message/dropout thing with out issues. So this definetly has to do with the Steinberg / Yamaha USB driver. Funny thing is that the Yamaha drivers, up until now, had always been super stable for me, allowing lower buffer settings and lower latency than the Eleven rack ASIO driver. Something is broke, either the yamaha driver, or some change in windows that is conflicting with the driver. I might try to roll back on the driver and see If I regain something…

More further testing, I’ve never used the ASIO driver on my AXE FX, but I gaved it a go, switch to the FAS ASIO driver (Axe FX II), selected minimum latency setting and buffer down to 64 samples, got 2.33 ms latency. Hit play same project, playback smooth, no drop outs, opened and closed plugins, video playback smoothly. The second I switched back to Yamaha ASIO driver, dropout occured. Open the ASIO panel, same damn message. STEINBERG YOU REALLY NEED TO TAKE A LOOK HERE PLEASE…

no doubt its a problem in yamaha steinber driver …
I tested the ur12 on 2 different laptops, in both I have the same dropouts, but on those same laptops an old tascam us2000 works perfect …

Steinberg (Ed Doll) some sort of aknowledgment, or " we are looking into it" would be nice please.
Yesterday I just couldn’t work at all. I loaded a post commercial session from a more than a month ago, customer wanted a revision on the script for the VO talent. I just can’t believe that my very trusty UR28M that has worked fine for so many years suddenly went unuseable. Dropouts and the message “audio interruption blah blah”… on the UR28M panel every minute! So annoying! Had to finish the work by switching the ASIO driver to my Eleven rack and using headphones…

I strongly believe the cause might not only be the driver, but the interaction of the driver with one of the recent windows updates. I haven’t done any modifications to my DAW, its been a while and it was stable, the only thing I can think of that triggered this is windows update doing its thing recently…

I also had this problem and I found this useful -
