What do you hope to see in Cubase update?

Haha that thing is such a joke I almost think Steinberg implicitly tries to discourage people from using it in favor of the same thing available at the bottom of the screen which was added a few version ago.
Maybe they will remove the transport bar completely in Cubase 12?
They look just about the same but the bar at the bottom works somehow, at least if you ask me, whereas the same thing in a floating bar is a total trainwreck!!! It’s a little strange actually.

My top FR’s for Cubase 10.5 would be:

1. Improved plugin mapping to generic/hardware control surfaces. Basically, something similar to Studio One’s Control Link functionality. As a new Cubase user, I was completely surprised at how poor the plugin mapping is with the Quick Controls and lack of an ability to use any MIDI Controller as a Generic Remote for plugin mapping. Control Link in Studio One lets you map any controller(s) to any plugin, with no practical limit on the number of parameters you can map, and these are retained with the plugin. When the plugin is in the active window, adjusting your controller will adjust the parameter. Very simple, incredibly effective.

2. Ripple Editing (with single track and per project modes).

3. Add “Archive Tracks” to the broswer for use as drag and drop Track Templates. Archive Tracks already works great as a way to save Track Templates, but is way under-utilized because of the implementation - call them Track Templates, give them a default save/read location, and add them to the browser and you’ve got a whole new workflow feature based 90% on existing tech.

4. Get rid of the floating title bar in Windows.

Other, smaller, more maintenance type feature requests…

5. Make it so preferences and settings are retained immediately (not when Cubase closes).

6. Make settings/preferences automatically carry over between Cubase versions with no additional input from the end-user following an upgrade. Upgrading from 9.5 to 10 required me to take some extra steps to import my old Cubase settings. No other DAW I’ve used ever required any extra steps.

7. Make it generally harder for settings/preferences to get corrupted…Can you tell I had Cubase reset itself this weekend? Was very frustrating waiting for all my plugins to rescan, and having to go load up my key commands.

8. Updated Eucon support.

9. More control over install locations and consolidation of folders. Give me options about where I want my Cubase Content to go, and stick to that. SSD’s are small and throwing things on the system drive by default then expecting users to work-around that after the fact, is not ideal. Also, I’m sure preferences and other settings could be consolidated into a single Cubase folder rather than one for each version.

That would be an amazing .5 upgrade right there.

I do have an online backup but I only modified a few key bindings. Was easier to recreate them manually than go pull a restore off the web. It seems Cubase crashed on close during the prior session and for whatever reason that corrupted some files triggering a plug-in rescan, which was way time consuming, and loss of key bindings. It’s something that should never occur in the first place though. Something seems wonky about how Cubase closes and how it access and saves these files and that’s what I’m hoping they address.

I should also add, I very much want a:

10. Smart tool. Way too much tool switching. Would love to a smart tool that can select, stretch, draw, delete, split, gain up/down, etc. based on the type of object I’m currently working on, and where the mouse is in relation to that. If you’ve spent a lot of time in a DAW with a good Smart Tool, you’ll appreciate the efficiency gains it provides once you master it.

Yes, add that to the list of things that will make working on Cubase faster and easier, visually speaking in this case.

HiDPI scaling for 4k (or equal high res) displays in Windows 10 needs to be fixed asap. The scaling currently works for mac only. 150 % scaling should be among the first non 100/200 % scales to be added for Win 10. Currently, Cubase 10 Pro is pretty much unusable in Win 10, if you have a 4k display. The GUI is either too small (native 4k 100 %) or double the size (200 %). 150 % only works without HiDPI mode, and then all graphics are soft. Steinberg, please fix this asap. I just switched to Cubase 10, only to find out that it is unusable. Most videos in Youtube showing Cubase in correct scaling are made using Mac, as was the Cubase 10 launch video by Steinberg.

We’ll get what we get, but I’m hoping that there are no new plugins, instruments, features, etc., until 10.5 (and even then, I personally will never need another plugin from Steinberg unless it’s truly something that no one else offers). The reason why I hope that is that I have everything covered by third party companies and a this point in time don’t need any other plugins, synths, this-plugin-does-everything-for-you plugins, etc. in Cubase itself. I’m hoping that 100% attention is spent on making Cubase more workflow and speed friendly along with GUI improvements – many threads have been about this so I don’t need to go into it. There’s a lot of work to do there, and it’s mostly little things that make a big difference in everyday work.

Don’t wanna have any new stuf in Cubase update, just clear out all the (longstanding) bugs.
Longstanding users of Cubase will problaby know what i mean with (longstanding) bugs :0)
And level the mac version performance wise to the windows version, there is still a too big of a gap regarding that.

Warm Regards.

Yes, we do know what you mean. I agree with your point. I do want the large amount of workflow and GUI issues addressed as well (many of which fall under longstanding bugs).

No additions, just make things better: CPU optimisations, GUI scaling, workflow enhancements, cleanup, stability safeguards, etc etc. I use AI10 on the mobile system as a test, but the studio machine still runs 9.5. I’d go crazy using 10 for full productions – simply because of the little things. And that HDPI mess. Looking forward to 10.5

r,
j,

I agree with most points. I very rarely use any of the plugins or samples that come with DAWs. Most importantly the DAW should be made to work efficienty, with great GUI and workflow, without bugs. However, I really hope they fix the HiDPI scaling-issue already for v10.2 or so. It cannot be a paid update for those who bought Cubase 10.0 for use in Win 10. Fixing the HiDPI scaling (allowing for example 150 % scaling) should be the priority 1 on their fix list, because it messes up the GUI in such a bad way for 4k displays that it is not possible to use the software comfortably.

Currently the Cubase 10 Pro graphics options for 4k displays in Win 10 are:
HiDPI 100 %: Way too small fonts and graphics to see anything, even on a large ~50" 4k display 70 cm away from the user
HiDPI 200 %: Way too large ‘zoomed in’ GUI to fit any project properly on the screen, typical scaling used by tablet apps
HiDPI off (default): GUI follows Win 10 scaling, but all fonts and graphics are too blurry to comfortably work without eye-fatigue

  1. Duplicate as quantize snap
  2. No auto activate project after closing project
  3. Fix to wasted space in mixer, GUI
  4. Rename plug ins

Well said – I agree 100%. No additions are needed, only a big amount of refinement and significant workflow changes (lots of little things that add up in a significant way, and some big things like more controls like volume and pan and more in the track headers, which makes a very immense difference in work speed). All of this talk is of course pointless right now, but apparently I enjoy writing the same things over and over…hahaha.

1- smart tool- it’s 2019 it’s time
2-disable mouse scroll wheel fader and pan adjustments in the mix console.
3-redesign the mix console. To boxy and a lot of wasted space.
Pro tools has the best mixer imho.
4-smooth scrolling on Mac. Cubase is the only daw that I have this problem.
5-quicker load and close times.
6-Move channels in the mix console. Who doesn’t want this? Time saver
7-off topic but redesign the forums. Lol, looks like I’m staring at windows xp. Lol
8- muted events should be way darker, it’s way to distracting. It’s muted for a reason. Disable tracks- events should blend into the project background,it’s also distracting.

I’d also add

11. Move channels in the mix console. This one is super annoying.

12. Plugin renaming/plugin aliases. So many plugins with stupid prefixes in their names, which clutter the effect bins. Would like to be able to permanently provide an alias/plugin name for these. For example, turn “UAD Universal Audio 1176 Rev E” into “UA 1176E” or something.

13. Oversampling on render. Would be great to see some upsampling/downsampling on offline bounces/renders for higher quality. Especially since the sample rate conversion in Cubase was just recently improved. Just make it an option so users could ignore it if they wanted.

14. Easy VST2 sidechaining. C’mon Steinberg, you won, people are supporting VST3. Can you finally do what every other DAW on the planet does for VST2 sidechaining and expose those inputs for use as send destinations so we can just sidechain?

+1

About #7 and the forum: I don’t know if it helps but there are two themes in the forum, the severely blue’n’red one that looks like 2005 and the other one that looks milder and newer

Just to add a few more

Be able to change multiple track colors in the mix console!

Having a light background in the project window, I can barely see my automation lines.

Control-option zooming like logic! Love that feature

Transparent waveforms to write volume automation

Thanks I had no idea we have the option to change the theme. But to be honest I would redesign the forums. Not a big deal though
