Can't find Prologue / Mystic / Spector in Cubase 12

If …

Steinberg feels these plugins is causing more problems than benefits they could release these plugins as abandonware and stop supporting them and then just forget about them. They’re clearly not thinking the plugins benefit the only place they can be used, which is inside Cubase. No workload or expenses but a potential goodwill boost? The value is zero, but humans are silly so some want their old tools no matter what.

Forgive me if I missed if there is some kind of similar situation like the old Waldorf of Wizoo collaborations etc where there is other companies involved, but these three or four plugins is Steinberg products to the core, right?

@steve is right - HALion 6 does not require a USB eLicenser (hardware dongle). Unlike HALion 5, HALion 6 can be used with a soft eLicenser (as can Absolute 4 and Absolute 5, both of which include HALion 6). However, if your licence for HALion is currently on a USB eLicenser, you cannot move that licence to a soft eLicenser.

The only products that have transitioned to the new Steinberg Licensing at present are Dorico 4 and Cubase 12. If I recall the original Steinberg Licensing announcements correctly, there is a new paid update of HALion coming, which will transition to Steinberg Licensing.

I have a long way to go in my personal Steinberg Licensing transition. I am still waiting for Nuendo, WaveLab Pro, SpectraLayers Pro, VST Connect Pro, Absolute and a lot of content packs to move to the new system.

Prologue, Mystic and Spector were produced by VirSyn - they are also engines in VirSyn’s TERA. Nobody seems to know whether LoopMash was written by Steinberg or a third-party developer.

Unless third-party code was work for hire, where Steinberg paid to own the code, it will be encumbered by whatever licence agreement was put in place when Steinberg obtained rights to it. It is very unlikely Steinberg is free to release third-party code as free abandonware.

Okie dokie! It was worht a try!

this forum software drives me nuts hahah!!! I just do everything backwards it seems.

Dongle is the only way to reliably use on more than one PC currently, and I’ve had Soft eLicensers corrupt on Windows updates/upgrades. It’s just not a reliable system for holding licenses, IMHO.

Did anyone convert the presets to user and care to share?

Steinberg Licensing is not soft eLicenser but entirely different technology.

I believe this is in reference to using Halion, which is not using the new Licence tech yet, but could potentially be used on a soft eLicenser, if you hadn’t installed it on a dongle already.

I found an easier way to make the LoopMash, Spector and Mystic factory presets available for C12.

  1. Copy the vstsound files from the folder
    C:\Program Files\Steinberg\Cubase 11\VST Sound
in a new subfolder of your vstsound content folder, e.g.
    V:\Steinberg\VST Sound\Cubase11
  2. Rename the files so that they do not appear twice in the system, e.g.
    “FCP_SMT_004_Cubase11.vstsound”
  3. Register the copied vstsound files in the new location with the Steinberg Library Manager
  4. Start Cubase 12
  5. Rescan the vstsound folders in the mediabay

That’s it :sunglasses:

Edit: It seems to be even easier to make the factory presets of the 4 “old” synths available in C12:
You don’t have to copy anything, rename anything.
Just double-click one of the vstsound files in the folder
C:\Program Files\Steinberg\Cubase 11\VST Sound,
then all vstsound files in that folder will be registered in the Library Manager.

And you can even see what function these files have:

Great!

What happened to the technical reasons these are not in C12 yet you guys seem to have them working? Cornfused

Since we don’t know the actual reason no one can really answer. But perhaps something like

  • They only fail when technology XYZ is present
  • They needed to be removed to prevent breaking about to be introduced new features
  • Steinberg can no longer legally distribute them
  • Windows 12 is gonna hose 'em
  • Steinberg’s primary goal is to inconvenience you

I love how pessimistic and conspiratorial this user community is.

Actually red flags potential users and keeps them away, too.

All could be true.

I had a legitimate question? Your interpretation is pessimism and conspiracy?

Potential users should be warned that anything inside of Cubase can be dropped like a hot potato at any time don’t ya think? Now we have guys messing around trying to get their instruments to work. Steinberg says for technical reasons and that’s that.

Some of us are curious as to WHY. It is a SIMPLE question to ask and a simple question to answer. Im not be secretive here.

Imagine my shock when guys are finding a workaround though the company says no can do.

Asking a question is one thing, putting forwards pessimistic and conspiratorial “assumptions” is another…

I’m sorry, but which one of those is the question, and the last one really kind of stands out :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t really think Steinberg owes anyone a response beyond what has already been provided. You can run Cubase 11 alongside Cubase 12 while you finish those projects and get the stems exported. Outside of having projects held hostage by those legacy plug-ins, there really isn’t any reason to mourn their disappearance.

This is a possibility in ALL products. Cubase is not exempt from this, so insinuating that Steinberg is an outlier is an exaggeration.

MAGIX, for example, is taking the legacy Object Synths and plug-ins like Orange Vocoder ME out of Samplitude Pro X [Suite]. DO some people like them? Sure. But it’s legacy stuff and they’re removing it because it’s 100% out of development and there is potential for bugs to hide within that code.

The question has been answered.

They can find whatever workarounds they want, but when problems arise in those components Steinberg is not going to be obligated to waste time and resources supporting them. Stopping you from using them is not really the main priority. Eliminating the need to support them is.

If they continue to distribute those components in the product, then they continue to obligate themselves to support them - bug fixes, problem solving, etc.

It’s like people are intentionally refusing to understand how this all works.

Lastly, why are you replying to me? I did not reply to you nor did I reference your reply. I simply referenced a reply by someone who quoted you, and my reply had nothing to do with what you wrote on this forum… It had to do with the content of the post I replied to - none of which really requires any replies to reference your statement de facto… We should all know how forum discourse works, these days.

Have a nice day.

Yes, Trensharo only YOUR opinion matters. I get it.
No worries my man, you will be on my ignore list so I don’t respond to ya

If we have lost 4 vst instruments should we not be getting some kind of replacement for those, i.e maybe the full version of groove agent/halion instead of SE especially for cubase pro 12. I have so many projects that use prologue for basslines and is a bit of a blow.

Same. Prologue had some great bass sounds!

Thanks for the tip!.
