Dorico 5 - external Monitor issue

Hi everyone,

I’m Ralf, a German drummer who used Finale until recently. Now I try to make Dorico 5 work for me and most things are fine.

One technical thing is very annoying:
I use an up to date Surface Pro 10 with Windows 11 Pro, often connected to a Philips 499P9H ultra wide monitor.

Dorico 5 has a very strange behavior when I try to work with both displays. When I start Dorico on the surface everything is fine. Of course - when connected - I want to use it on the monitor. When moving it from the surface to the monitor, Dorico itself (menus, tools…) appears way too big. Dropdown menus seem to be the right size, but they appear anywhere on the screen, not connected to the main menu.
When I switch it back to the surface, everything is now so small, I can’t read anything.

All the settings regarding the displays are at “recommended” and work fine for me. I use a lot of software and so far never experienced something like this.

I just found out that, when I set the Philips as main display, connect it first and then start Dorico it seems to show up the way it should. While that seems to be a workaround, it’s not really a solution.

Of course I used the search and found something about flickering (with a Mac) and something about freezing the computer. Both seems different, so I decided to start a new topic.

Thanks for any help

I have this issue too - and the drop down menus have issues. I found the solution in Settings > System > Display > Scale, and changing the scale to 100% for my 10-year old monitor. Everything on my laptop screen is tiny since I usually use the hi-res display at 175% or 200%. The default on my Win11 machine is 200% since it’s a 3000 x 2000 display. I believe surface Pro has a similar screen size, so hopefully this works.

I have a similar issue, using an external monitor and my MacBook. Every time I open Dorico, the menus etc. are all very small in how they appear. But clicking on them in this distorted position does not work correctly. I have to guess where they would be if correctly sized in order to access them. So to fix, I drag the Dorico window to my laptop screen, release, and then drag it back, at which point it resets the menu to the correct size and function. While I appreciate Dorico remembers between sessions (unlike Finale) that I have an external monitor and so it appears there, having to drag the window back and forth every time is annoying.

I am experiencing similar issues and I already posted about it on this forum. I think I will revive my old post and attach the link here.

EDIT 3: @christopherjhoh This is the first time I read about these issues being present on macOS as well though.
