Cubase 14 wishlist

Perhaps I should’ve stated that I’m using Cubase Pro 12.0.70.

Event Envelope

Interesting if they made changes to Event Envelopes without actually improving it.

Yeah, weird. I delete the points by holding Shift (where I will get the eraser icon). On my first attempt it just deleted the blue line but now I actually have to click twice. First click to delete the point, second click to delete the line.

Maybe we should expand the feature-request in the way that they should add a start and an end point to the envelope. I mean, internally they are there already but the nodes are just so small that they are hard to see/to click.
And should the first creation of a node really set the level for the entire event? That is also awkward.

Agreed. I find it very unintuitive that creating a single curve point, ending up in a flat line, results in a reduction in gain (and next to impossible to predict by how much).

I rarely use it, to be honest. It’s not the worst, but definitely daunting to use. I’m just using gain or volume automation because it’s faster and easier to use.

I’m totally up for a more efficient version of volume envelopes.

It is very fiddly, hard to grab on to with the pencil tool, and hard to limit the changes to just the piece of audio you want.

Not to mention it’s so disappointing you can only reduce volume with this tool, can’t make it louder.

?Is it possible to see how long I work on each project

While waiting for Steinberg, there’s this from Hofa (there’s a free version).

Not including vst plugins or synths and concentrating on the DAW itself. New plugins is not really a good reason for upgrade as we all have them coming out of our ears

allow 3rd party midi fx the way it works in cubasis

I personally dion’t have third party plugins coming out of my ears. I bought into the UAD hardware/software universe some years ago but I really appreciate some of the high quality plugins Steinberg continue to produce.

Steve.

Taking the liberty of paraphrasing you there. 13 in a nutshell.
14 would be great if they fixed all these “features” and anomalies.

Radius is an offline process much like the mpex offline options in cubase.
yes they are extremely high quality but they are offline, not realtime processes.
Unfortunately audio warp is all built around realtime processes, hence the glitches also

There are algorithms from other companies that could be implemented in Cubase. Dirac, Izotope, would be great. Edit the tempo of voice recordings in Melodyne and see how much it preserves frequencies, quality and doesn’t leave the audio with a blurry sound. It preserves the brightness of the recording, especially in high frequencies. I realize that the standard Algorithm is also preserved, but they have a problem with fixing time after Bounce in many versions
including version 13. Elastic Pro is good, but it could improve in terms of conserving frequencies. It would be a perfect update with these settings and the inclusion of new algorithms.

  1. Spectral as a Time Stretching Algorithm in Cubase (from HALion)
  2. MIDI VST FX
  3. Clean up the Score Editor - Gets really messy
  4. More Score Symbols to associate with articulations in Expression Maps
  5. Improve Expression Map Creation and Editing.
  6. Option for one Lane/Markered Expression Editing in the Key Editor (similar to Studio One or Sonar)
  7. Copy & Paste between Cubase ↔ Dorico
  8. Realtime Clip FX
  9. Stem Splitting in the Sampler Track (Vocal, Drums, Bass, Other)
  10. New, Good Step Sequencer
  11. Why is RestoreRig not in Cubase Pro, yet?
  12. Standard MPE Implementation (for both Cubase and the Instruments) - This probably should be #1, but I don’t feel like editing. It’s such an egregious disrespect to users to maintain this parallel system that only Cubase supports.

Keep GUI as is and improve it through polish and increased consistency.
The people who aren’t “Gen Z Ableton Kids” are nearing retirement and why waste time going backwards only to turn around and do all that work over again.

:joy:

Keep waiting.

For myself the only plug I value, and I paid $15 for the entire bundle, is Hofa Notepad. I don’t use any others Hoffa plugs.

It just works well as a per track note pad when the Cubase Track notepad is not good enough.

I wish there were other 3rd parties, but I haven’t seen many. If any others that are actually supported, please post them.

This is the one I was using for years, but it’s not updated, and on my system, I’m forced to move the notepad with my mouse in order to close it. Focus problems.

This one only works partially for me.

this one is nice if you need an alternative for pics.

Dirac is more or less already implemented in cubase…
We have MPEX…
It’s arguably the same thing from the same company.

So do you feel Melodyne returns better results than Cubase’s built-in functionality?

Melodyne’s algorithm is one of the best out there. I’ve already edited vocals in it and in Cubase’s algorithms. The advantage I saw in Melodyne is that it doesn’t blur the audio, and we notice this more in voice and instrument edits, comparing it with native Cubase. And generally we need a well-preserved, intact vocal to shine on the recordings. I would like new algorithms, new functions in this part as this is very important to keep our recordings in the best form and quality. I find editing directly in Cubase much faster, but for this sound detail I prefer it in Melodyne. I really hope that version 14 comes with these settings.

Could deploy them in real time, like those from Z-plane and standard Algorithms. This detail is very important to me, as I work with editing and I really like that the files after editing are free of artifacts. It would be a very important update for me at this point.
